Started Pre-op Diet

Recommended Posts

So my surgeon has me on the Opti-Fast diet for the next 2 weeks. I thought I was going to hate it but I'm doing pretty well, but it's also only been 3 days so we'll see how long it is before I go nuts lol. The only thing I don't like about this diet is your lack of choices. The shakes only come in 3 flavors, the Soups only come in 2 flavors and the bars are completely intolerable texture wise. I had to swap out all of my bars for more shakes. I tried the PB, chocolate and Berry.. All to me, are absolutely disgusting! The Tomato and chicken cream Soup are actually really really good and you're allowed to season those as long as it's sugar free seasoning. I will say too, I'm having an issue getting all 8 servings in a day. So far I haven't been able to get past 6 servings. Anybody else have this issue? Also, for anybody else on Opti-Fast, did your surgeon allow you to have clear broth in addition to your Opti-Fast products? I also have lost 7 lbs so far which is amazing for only 3 days!

How many Optifast are you drinking per day. I have also purchased them and the Peanut Butter crunch bars. I can't remember how many to drink per day. I'm also on the two week liquid diet.

Every surgeon is different.. But mine has me on 8 servings of Optifast a day.. I get a choice of 2 bars per day and 1 Soup. As I said in my original post I could not stand the bars and I exchanged them for more shakes. I'll be honest about the servings too, I can't get all 8 in a day.. I have an average of 5-6 a day and I replaced the bars with a few solids a day. Like I'll have a few pieces of low fat cheese and turkey rolled up. I keep that extremely limited though so I'm mostly doing liquid. I also added in a few cups of seasoned low-sodium chicken broth in to break up the sweetness of the shakes. I am losing weight super fast too. I'm down 11 lbs already and today is only my 6th day! Good luck to you!! If you need anyone to talk to since we're going through this at the same time I'm here for ya!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
