I 4 days Post op and still having the shoulder pain from gas. How long should this last?

Also, I feel so weak. It is so hard to get all of the Fluid plus food into one day. I have already lost 6 lbs. Is this normal?

Yeah - It's pretty normal. I had serious gas pains for about 5 days and then it started disappearing. Keep active. Be sure to walk around. I took some Milk of Magnesia and it basically cleared out my whole system. You might want to look into trying that, but after that I was feeling pretty spectacular aside from the incision pain.

I had my surgery on 12/28 and the gas is getting better now! I have found Gas-X, walking and heating pad works well. The heatpad made all the difference yesterday! I am a little weak but have tried to push along, I get tired and sit for a bit then trudge back up. I am NOT sleeping much right now and wonder if it is the Lortab (that I am only using sparingly now) or is it new energy (from the diet of Protein and liquid)? The biggest thing though is my mindset seems changed. This isnt another "diet adventure" it is a "more healthy life" for myself. WOW! I have done something for myself!!! Such a change!!! Good luck with the blasted gas! Melanie

Try taking one chewable Gas-X tablet with each "meal." I haven't had any gas pains at all yet.

As far as feeling weak, I felt like I'd been hit by a truck until about day 4 or 5 due to the effects of the anesthesia. Make sure you're getting enough Protein each day to keep up your energy. I make Protein and Fluid intake my two main priorities. I'm back to work and feeling like I have my usual level of energy now.

I still have shoulder pain when certain foods don't agree with me. My shoulder pain was very bad for the first 2 months after surgery. Heating pad and exercise are definately helpful. I also felt very weak, but I noticed it went away when I was properly hydrated. Hope you feel better soon I know exactly what your going through. It gets better every day.

Don't worry its all normal. I am on my 14th day and still feel some gas pain. My fourth and fifth day were the worst of all. I was in tears but it definitely diminishes as time goes on. I used fleet suppositories and they helped for short period just get everything out quickly. I also slept with my knee up and this seemed to feel ok.

when you guys say gas pains, do you pass gas to relieve the pains? how does it get "relieved"?

To relieve my gas pain I need to burp. Not just your normal burp either. It's like a deep belly burp and it feels so good after to take some pressure of my shoulder. I've been eating the Gas X tabs that dissolve on the tongue. I've had some pains that made me not want to breathe because it hurt so bad. I'm having mild pains now and just prayin for that good burp. I have had gas out the other end too, but not much. Just a poot here and there. Either way I'm always excited now when any kind of air is escaping...lol

I think the last post was most helpful to me, I have been having the chest pain/breath pain and did not relate it to "gas" but burping did relieve..... everytime I read 'gas pain" I was thinking abdominal........ I even thought that I might be developing a PE because it was so intense.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
