Hey I am wondering how soon are most of you able to drive after surgery? Is it uncomfortable sitting in the upright position? I drive a standard I'm wondering how that's going to feel with movement any feedback I would love!! Thanks

Just as long as you are off your pain meds. My incisions weren't anywhere near where my seatbelt hit me, so I was okay.

Ok thanks it's just I live about an 1 hour away from where I'm having my sleeve done so I was concerned. Especially my husband is going to be working a lot while I'm out of work.

Yes, as long as you are off your pain meds you should be good to drive. My surgeon said I could drive the day I came home which was 2 days after surgery IF not on pain meds. I drove 5 days after surgery.

I waited about a week and a half, but probably could have done it sooner. I didn't really have anywhere to go, and I actually enjoyed having someone drive me around the few times I needed to go anywhere.

No issues with the seat belt, but getting out of the car was uncomfortable just because my car is low to the ground. But the actual driving was no problem.

My surgeon didn't clear me to drive for two weeks after surgery but I may have gone a little rogue on that after a week of being trapped at home. I didn't have any problems with driving, but I probably wouldn't have wanted to do a long drive (20 minutes +) at that point.

I had surgery in Mexico and flew out of an airport over 2 hours away from my house. I had surgery late Thursday and drove my car the two hours home from the airport on Monday night. I had absolutely no problems. :)

I had to be off pain meds. The only problem I had was the way I sat in the car lodged the gas from surgery straight into my shoulder and it hurt oh so much :-( But it did pass after a week.

Don't know if the others caught that you have a clutch. ( did I catch that?)

I could drive at about a week out but took about 3 weeks before I could drive the truck. (5 sp w/ clutch). I would get in push in the clutch and then get out and go back in the house. I may have been able to do it in an emergency but knew it would not be safe if I had to react suddenly. Hubby took full advantage and took my car do I would stay home and recuperate. ;-)

Besides being off your pain meds, you should also be able to turn completely at the waist w/o pain.

I drove for the first time at 10 days after surgery- I did fine except for turning to check behind me when I was backing up- way too painful to turn at the waist, but no problems with the seatbelt or getting in and out of the car.

Yes that's right I have a 5 speed all 3 my husband and my car is all standard so my manin concern was the pushing on the clutch would it hurt

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
