I had an old bottle of coke from before surgery sitting on my counter calling my name. I took the top off and let it go flat and fixed myself some in a glass. I took one sip and dumped it out. As soon as I swallowed it I started sweating and my stomach immediately cramped.

I loooooved coke before surgery. Now after that sip..... I don't want a thing to do with it. Ill stick to my tea and Water.< /p>

Like others said, it's all about the carbonation. The nurse gave me an actual visual of soda. She shook a bottle really hard and put a balloon on the end. The balloon actually filled up from all the carbonation coming out of the soda. She said to imagine that in your stomach. If I did have to drink soda it needed to be flat. Not that soda is great flat but if it's the taste you crave maybe have a flat one?

I was told they remove the part of your stomach that stretches and this myth has been debunked

I was told it stretches a little over time though.

I will be 8 mos post-op on the 30th, and around the 7mo mark I did take a sip here and there without problems. Last night I had a barcardi and coke with no problem. I also have had a beer with out any problems as well. This is not a everyday occurrence :)

Oh well I have no idea then LOL Maybe that was their way of instilling fear in me

If you are a soda addict like me dont sip or drink one. It is empty calories and the gas will make your stomach upset. I tried coke and dr pepper. The coke was not bad but the dr pepper was horrible it felt like my stomach was going to pop. So please if you do decide to do this take caution because that dr pepper scared the hell out of me. I decided not to even think about sodas anymore.

Same thing happened to me. On to of it all... It tasted horrible. :( so long dr. pepper.... My love.

Now I know the answer to my following question' date=' however I just want some personal experience answers LOL! I am dyyyinngggggg to just have ONE sip of a pop! I know I shouldn't and they say not to. But one sip? I can control myself - I just don't want to have pain. Comments???

Also- straws.... I know they said not to. But for how long? Not that I'm totally concerned not using a straw; makes no difference to me really. Just curious. :D[/quote']

I had surgery on 5/30. I use straws with no problem. My nutritionist said its up to the individual. As far as soda (pop)..I read a post that recommended getting a coke icee. I tried one and it fixed my craving! Good luck

w one

I love fountain coke!!! But it's definitely a trigger for me. I did try a sip, but had TERRIBLE heartburn after, so that cured me! Never again! Also my nutritionist said that it stretches your stomach, so I definitely don't want that!! I'd say forget it! Don't even tempt yourself!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
