The only thing that worries me about Dr Ortiz is that from what I've read' date=' it seems you spend just 1 night in the hospital and 2 in the hotel. It is why I'm leaning towards Dr Acevez since with him you spend 3 nights in the hospital.[/quote']

You spend one night in the clinic. They release you as long as you are sipping Water, and able to walk and not in pain.

I just had my surgery on the 1st of July with Dr. Ortiz and my experience was fantastic!

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

I promise there is no reason to stay an extra day in the hospital. If they had ANY concern you weren't doing fine they wouldn't let you go. They check on you often throughout the afternoon and night. In walked out the next day without any pain or nausea. I was a little sore where my incisions were but that's it. The beds at the Marriott are heavenly! Like the Heavenly beds at a Westin if you've ever stayed there.

Thanks JulieJ, congratulations! I hope you are feeling well. In my past surgical experience, I don't always have a good time with the anesthetic and that's my biggest concern here for this surgery. Reading this site and particularly those who had Dr Ortiz, it is mostly favorable and positive but many don't seem to recall ever meeting him so it makes me pause. I might be being silly, and he's certainly less expensive than Dr Acevez, but I'm nervous.

Dr. Ortiz sat and had coffee with my husband and I before surgery. He also stopped in after surgery to chat with my husband. :)

I was just too loopy from the meds to remember him. My bf met him and assured me that I did too, I just don't remember. I would recommend him and the entire OCC staff to my closest friends and family. I have no regrets.

I was sleeved by Dr. Ortiz on 7/1/13 and feeling great. The whole experience went must smoother than expected. Everybody was super friendly and the hotel and surgery center were very clean. Which was very comforting. I'd recommend to anybody.

I had my surgery with Dr. Ortiz on April 16th 2012 and I can honestly say it was the best decision I have EVER made!!! I am down 142 lbs and I feel amazing!! I am actually on his before and after section of his website and I have a featured youtube clip. I am an advocate as Dr. Ortiz has changed my life. He and his staff took such great care of me! I have posted several times about my experience so if you search under my posts you should find more info. One of his coordinators' date=' Lori Wrights had her band to sleeve revision the same day as me.. We call each other "sleeve sisters"!!! LOL I also use his Enspira vitamins.. I have never taken the recommended dosage (4 per day) but I try and get at least one down a day. I also take an additional B12 not because I have too... I just believe in B12 so much for overall wellness. Haven't been sick a day since my surgery. :)

I have pictures posted of the facility and of my surgery day if you are interested in looking....

As always... I am here for support as well... So, if any of you have any questions or concerns please let me know.. I am glad to help!

Best of Luck!!!

Vetniemeer I totally understand being nervous. I was nervous for about a week before my surgery, but when I got to San Diego the nerves were gone! Not nervous at all the day of my surgery.

I know 3 people personally that had band to sleeve revisions. Those cases are suppose to stay an extra day just because it's a different surgery and for precaution. All 3 of them did so well the extra day wasn't needed!

I know of someone that made the switch to Dr. Ortiz at the last minute and she called him and talked to him. Ask to speak to him if that would make you more comfortable. He is sooo nice and wants the best for his patients.

You look great! What kind of exercises have you been doing?

Well.... to be honest... Not much at all.. I have 3 teenagers so they keep me pretty busy! I walk, lots of yardwork, swimming on occasion, and I have some free weights that I use here and there. Looking back I wish I would have incorporated more toning but I had a lot of muscle mass before.. Hard to believe because I was so heavy but my legs have always been pretty solid. My arms had a good amount of muscle as well. There are definitely parts of my body that I don't like now.. My inside upper arms and my stomach could use some "help" but all in all I accept my body and the changes that it's made. Kind of hard NOT to have some loose skin after losing 140 lbs. Is a Tummy Tuck in my future?? Maybe.... but for now I am happy, content and at peace!!!! Best decision I ever made!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
