Going alone to Tijuana and scare to death
I went alone and it was heaven!!!! I didn't find communicating difficult at all. The people at the Marriott speak English and the staff at my doctor's spoke English too! You will be fine!

Help deciding between Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Aveces
I agree with everything Cherbear said! I was there June 10th and had a wonderful experience. I never had any pain or nauseousness and haven't had any issues at all. Dr. Ortiz and the whole staff are so nice, patient and will happily answer any questions you have. Far better care than I have ever gotten in the US. I also went alone and it was heavenly. I'm a single mom to an 8 year old so the fact I could rest, nap and not have to answer any questions was awesome! Best of luck with your decision!

Our experience with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Negras
gamergirl I think you are SO right about the expertise of the surgeon has something to do with recovery! I've thought that for a while myself! Glad you and your husband had a wonderful experience and I wish you both continued successful recoveries!

Did you take a tax deduction for the cost of your VSG in Mexico?

The OCC and Dr Ariel Ortiz?
Kieshart so glad to hear you are doing well! I had that 'runners' pain the third day after surgery. For me it was gas and one of my fellow sleevers handed me some gel that did the trick! They were rather adventurous and had gone to Wal Mart and bought drinkable Yogurt (tasted heavenly on day 3 or 4) and other things! Don't know where they came up with that gel but I thought what the heck, I'll take it. My surgery was about 11:00ish I think and I was out until 9:00 that night when the doctor and nurse were checking on me. Went right back to sleep until midnight and out again! Welcome to the other side!

Coordinators in Mexico?
In went alone and it was awesome. My surgery was at the OCC with Dr Ariel Ortiz and I was well taken care of by all concerned. From the driver to the staff at the OCC to the Marriott. I was never afraid for my safety and the Marriott was a great place to relax and recuperate. As a single mom of an 8 year old not worrying about anyone or having to answer 100 questions was so peaceful.

Going alone!
I went by myself 4 weeks ago and it was a piece of cake! The alone time was WONDERFUL!

Dr Ariel Ortiz?
I know of another Ortiz patient that did Atkins for awhile before her surgery. You might shoot Dr. Miranda an email and ask her. She is the nutritionist.

Dr Ariel Ortiz?
I used the Enspira and it was wonderful. They have recently changed the formula and its NASTY!!! GROSS!!! They also cut in half the protein and tripled the carbs for some reason. I have been meaning to email Dr Miranda and ask why. The nutritional value on the website doesn't match what is on the new can.

Dr Ariel Ortiz?
Vetniemeer I totally understand being nervous. I was nervous for about a week before my surgery, but when I got to San Diego the nerves were gone! Not nervous at all the day of my surgery. I know 3 people personally that had band to sleeve revisions. Those cases are suppose to stay an extra day just because it's a different surgery and for precaution. All 3 of them did so well the extra day wasn't needed! I know of someone that made the switch to Dr. Ortiz at the last minute and she called him and talked to him. Ask to speak to him if that would make you more comfortable. He is sooo nice and wants the best for his patients.

Marriot popcicles!
I was there June 10th thru 13th and the Popsicles tastes like cantaloupe which I hate. I ate a few bites but they weren't my SF ones from home.

Dr Ariel Ortiz?
I promise there is no reason to stay an extra day in the hospital. If they had ANY concern you weren't doing fine they wouldn't let you go. They check on you often throughout the afternoon and night. In walked out the next day without any pain or nausea. I was a little sore where my incisions were but that's it. The beds at the Marriott are heavenly! Like the Heavenly beds at a Westin if you've ever stayed there.
