Would you up your date?

Recommended Posts

For those of you already banded....if you already had a scheduled date and the surgeon called with a cancellation would you have done it? Or if you did it do you regret it? My surgery is scheduled for February 1 and they called today and said they had a cancellation for January 18. As far as help, kids, and all the daily life stuff I can't seem to come up with a reason not to up the date. As for mentally, just want to make sure I've got everything done and taken care of in time..... Also don't know if I can stand to wait until February knowing I could do it in January! UUUGGGGHHH....it is helping to vent a little and write it all down. Any help or opinions are appreciated!

Go For it!!

The recovery isn't horrific though I guess it depends on the ages of your kids. I had gas pain and tenderness but nothing unbearable. I kind of feel like the sooner the better. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck either way!!

Thanks for the quick response! I'm kind of leaning that way. Husband originally said to give myself time to get ready and keep the Feb. date, but he also said it was my decision and he'd be there for the ride. I have an 11 year old son and 7 year old twin boys. They are old enough to fend for themselves a little and know what's going on so that shouldn't be a factor either. Talking this out is making me decide to switch to January......boy I sure do have trouble with change!

I would go ahead and get the earlier date. That gives you a couple of weeks to get ahead. I had only 2 days of downtime and even during those 2 days I cleaned house, did laundry and all of that stuff. It's really a easy surgery.

I did exactly that. My original date was the 18 Dec. When I went to see my surgeon for my last pre op consult, he said he could fit me in on the 22nd November, which was only 2 weeks after. I jumped at the chance. I just wanted to get it done ASAP, I figured that way I would be 4 weeks ahead of myself if I took the earlier date.

If you can organise your family logistically to cater for the earlier date and you are mentally and emotionally prepared, then go for it. Your new life starts the day you leave the hospital!!

Thanks....I guess I've got to see things written down, you know the pro's and con's list. I can't come up with any logistical reasons not to up it. So guess I'm a January Bandster instead of February!! Now I've got to try and get some sleep, although not sure that will happen very quickly.....I'm so excited!!!!

Thanks again to everyone for your support and quick responses!

I sure would. I didnt even see a surgeon or really think about this UNTIL I was ready for some big life changes, so basically once I'd made the decision, the sooner we got the show on the road the better.

Okay, I've had time to sleep on it and I'm definitely going to change to January instead of February. The wait is what is driving me crazy so why not get it over quicker. My doctor doesn't require any sort of pre-op diet so that helps. He just says to do low fat for the 2 weeks before. Other than that everything else can be ready in time. Wish me luck, and thanks again for your support!

5Jacks, that is exactly what happened to me. My scheduled date was October 30 and they called me the end of September and asked if I wanted to move my date to October 2. I jumped on it. I was so ready. Good luck to you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
