I'm in the same boat with you. I'm going into this knowing that I am using the VSG as a tool not only to have a better healthier life but also as a tool against my infertility. I'm hoping to get a call today or monday with a surgery date!

I hated being on metformin, I don't think it helped any. I'm not taking anything right now, I will be going on Lupron for 6 months to help with my endo.

The only thing metformin has helped me with so far...and i've only been on it a week is my appetite. Prayers for your surgery date! I am still waiting on the scheduler to call about all my cardiology, dietician appts etc...! I'll be super happy when that call comes in! Good luck!

I hated metformin! Worst 6 months of my life. Spent the entire time throwing up, figuring out dosage and ended up in the hospital with dehydration. I'm being sleeves July 8. I'm hoping that this helps my pcos. However I am single and not looking to be pregnant, I do want the option.

DH and I suffered from infertility. Severe male factor combined with my endo made IVF with ICSI our only option. We did one cycle prior to sleeve (b/g twins, now 5.5 years old) and then I had my sleeve a few years later. Two years post sleeve we opted to do a FET with our remaining embryos and that resulted in my now three month old daughter. In my case, my fertility wasn't much different post op, though my doctors were certainly much more comfortable doing the transfer because they really were reluctant to do my IVF when I was over 200 pounds.

The best treatment I have ever had for my endo was actually the Mirena IUD. Obviously not something those with endo will use if also trying to conceive! I also had real problems with it post sleeve, but some people love it. I couldn't lose weight and feel like I was much more hormonal on it, but once I shed these last few baby pounds I have every intention of trying it again. I hadn't lived so pain free since my early teens!

It stands to reason that sufferers of PCOS will experience an increase in fertility once they lose weight. I was an insulin resistant type 2 diabetic (many PCOS sufferers are also insulin resistant) and within a very short time after surgery was enjoying normal blood sugars and by the end of my first year post op was declared "in remission" by my doc and had a normal A1c. Shedding weight and getting the insulin problem under control can make a huge difference in your fertility. We do see a number of ladies with PCOS reporting increased fertility here - and on the pregnancy board you'll see a number of "I was told I couldn't get pregnant" pregnancy posts.

And Metformin stinks, no doubt about it!

Thanks everyone for your replies! As of right now i'm only having the hormonal issues with my infertility everything else looks good. Today I was scheduled for all of my dietician, exercise and cardiology appts. Fingers crossed for a Sept surgery date. And metformin does suck! But my nausea has sudsided. Im hoping I wont have to be on it for long!

From the day I had my first appointment till surgery was 6 1/2 months. I made the mistake of not getting pulmonary clearance until after finishing my 3 mo. diet. I was referred for a sleep study (they found apnea) and that set off a series of events that took longer than I expected. But use your time to start living the lifestyle, it helps tremendously.

A lot of women on this forum talk about wishing they had done vsg sooner as their only regret. I wholeheartedly agree. I have suffered with PCOS for 9 years that I know of and only found out about the endometriosis after going to a fertility clinic when I was 40. I only agreed to take the metformin because someone told me she had no luck with clomid but had conceived triplets while on metformin for a short time. Ugh! I suffered from chronic tummy issues for four years just praying to conceive (not exactly conducive to romance). Now that I am 47, I have resigned myself to the high probability I will remain a favorite aunt (sigh). But I admit if out of the wild blue yonder I ended up pregnant in the next year, I wouldn't complain :-)

At least vsg has given me some energy and libido back, so we will have fun either way! Good luck and baby dust to you spring chickens :-)

I'm also struggling with secondary infertility. I have a 12 yr old daughter and am only 38. I heard from several reliable sources that having wls increases your fertility so am hopeful. We will begin iui once I am ready to do so....unless of course I don't need it.

I'm hopeful that the surgery will help increase my fertility also. I finally received my appointments to get everything done yesterday. So i'm scheduled for all of that on July 17th. My estimated surgery month is Oct! They haven't said that I needed a sleep study yet, but I have a cardiac arrythmia which is totally harmless so far but i'm sure they will want me to get one after I see the cardiologist. I just can't believe this is something that will be happening for me. *fingers crossed* anyway I dont wanna get my hopes up for something and then be let down. But I know i'm well on my way. I'm glad this is a place where we all can get advice! Because if I say anything to anyone they just kind of look at me like i'm stupid.....but I k now this is the best thing for me and my life and I really don't care what other people think.
