5 days post op-afraid it didnt work! Feeling TOO normal.

Recommended Posts

I am 3 days post op and felt the same today. I am working on small sips, but really have no problem with drinking or getting shakes in. My full liquid diet for 2 weeks also allows for pudding and yogurt. I was feeling like there was something wrong, as I ate about 6 oz of Tomato Soup for dinner with no issues. Not having hunger pains, but makes me nervous that I will be able to consume too easily as the diet progresses. Glad to see I am not alone. I am also in VA and plan on going to the local support group for tips and information.

I have had a pretty Uneventful time with my sleeve too. I can eat about 4 oz. of yogurt with no problems. I like it that my body tells me "whoa that's enough!!" I never had that before. I was sleeved 5/30 and have only had a problem with an incision area. I don't really have hunger... But I know when I need to eat something. No nausea or vomiting either! So far, so good!!!

That sounds good. Where are you from I might go to the same surgeon. I hear a lot of people complain on here. You should be happy. Please tell me your in Miami. Lol

Linda, I'm in Miami and feel the same ad the OP. I didn't have one issue. No if anything. My surgeon was Dr Jorge Rabaza.

I didn't have any issues and was given yogurt while in the hospital. No pain at all except the ng tube. Incisions healed beautifully. Yogurt is ok. Check with your Dr

Hi Linda. I met with DLC too. Rabaza uses South Miami. They have a great staff there. Their support system is amazing. I was so surprised. I started with DLC but eventually changed due the insurance not covering. I'm actually happy that happened because the support system I'm getting the SMiami group is amazing. You can email the main person and she is quick to reply. She visits you in the hospital. Very involved and personable. Very important to me. Rabaza is very detailed and returns your call if you have an issue or concern. I have blue shield is my carrier. So I guess you are seeing Noel (nut)?

Sorry Linda. I had my surgery on May 22. Great recovery. Haven't been sick once.

I had my sleeve and gallbladder removal Wednesday (6/12) and I have breezed through. In the hospital I had nausea when the gas from surgery moved around but haven't throw up yet. Yesterday was a turning point for me because I realized I could get my liquids in with no problem. The yogurt I was given in the hospital was diluted with milk so that is a smart option if you want to keeps things a little more like liquid. Also, unflavored Protein in broth and condensed Soups is great. Last night I had broccoli cheese Soup that I puréed in the blender with milk and unflavored protein. Best thing I've eaten yet! It felt like "real" food! My NUT's advice was to go slow and don't push or overdo things so that's what I am striving to do. Yesterday we attended a party for a friend and everyone there was astounded that I had surgery only a few days before. I felt great and I'm losing about a pound a day. Best wishes to everyone!

You sound just like me back when I had my surgery. I am now 3 1/2 months post op, btw. I felt hungry, could drink liquids normally and my doctor told me I could have yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs right away. I was too scared and waited until 1 week to do the yogurt and cottage cheese. At first I was upset that I didn't feel any different. I wanted restriction (still don't have that and I eat anything and everything now). I wanted to feel different! My recovery was a piece of cake and everyone told me to count my blessings. I do feel my surgeon is amazing and that's why. Now that I am almost 4 months out I have learned when to stop eating and how much is right for my sleeve. I eat just as quickly as I did pre surgery, but much less. I gulp Water and have no problems. I chew my food just as I did before and feel exactly as i did pre surgery. I'm sure you will be the same. I've lost 41 lbs, but have recently stalled. :(. Just be very careful. As many told me on this forum, your new stomach is still in shock and probably a bit numb. Don't overdue it. A little at a time. I could eat 4-5 oz of yogurt with no problems too, but I wouldn't go over that even if you feel like you can because you don't want to stretch the stomach and cause a leak. Just hang in there. You will learn and it will be easy. Good luck with everything!

I'm a newbie' date=' first posting. I've been reading the boards for months, but never posted until now. I was sleeved on 6-11, and am 5 days post op. Everything went amazingly smoothly. Very little pain, I didn't even need pain meds, just Tylenol. I didn't have any nausea, which is a miracle for me because everything makes me nauseous. I only vomited once in the hospital, after my upper GI, that stuff was nasty. My fear is that I feel TOO normal. I keep waiting for something to go wrong. I have been able to get in my Protein and liquid requirements since I got home two days ago with no problems. I am on liquids only, and have only done Protein shakes, crystal light, broth and yogurt. But today I drank too fast, instead of sipping, on accident from old habits, and it didn't hurt. It does hurt when I first swallow, as it hits my stomach, but that is all. I can eat 5 ounces of yogurt, a tablespoon at a time, and a bunch of liquid with no problems. I shouldn't be able to do that yet right? I'm definatly not hungry, no hunger at all, but other than that, and my sore stomach, everything feels the same as before surgery. I'm guessing the problems with eating will come later, when I progress to solids?[/quote']

Relax you're fine. Your stomach is still numb and you'll learn liquids are much easier to get down and you can fit more. Trust me, as you get to the more solid stages you will feel it. Remember to eat slowly as you progress.

Edit: I felt the exact same way you did. I thought it didn't work. I am now three months out and 82lbs lighter.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
