February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

My name is Ashley, I was banded on Feb. 13th. I'm getting along well.. Day 2, sucked, but I'm happy that's is passed.

I'm also really happy that I've found people that can relate to the newly banded feelings.

Thank you lapband4meNOW!!!

To hear another person’s experience start to finish is reassuring. The Butterflies in my stomach started to reproduce yesterday and are getting worse. I know I have said this before, but this is my first surgery. I am more worried about the anesthesia then the surgery itself. I want to make sure that I am going to wake up. My mother had a problem with waking up after surgeries. I have told the doctor this and I plan on telling the anesthesiologist this as well. But it is still there, at the back on my mind.

Is the surgery worth possibly not waking up? I am one of the many yo-yo dieters. I am unsure of what my exact highest weight was. My scale stopped at 320. I know that I was wearing 26-28 and they were getting tight. So I know that I weight well over 320. I out right refused to go to a doctor. I was embarrassed. I felt like a cow!!! I started on Metabolite with ephedra after seeing some of my friends loose weight. I dropped down to a size 8. I was soooooo happy!!! I was living life like there was no tomorrow. I did go to the doctor at that time. He was so happy I had lost the weight. He said I was the patient that lost the most in his office. When I told him what I did it with, he sent me to have an EKG. I hadn’t done too much damage to my heart, but the doctor ordered me to stop taking Metabolite, before I did. I stopped taking it, tried to eat healthy so I could maintain the new me.

I met my first husband during the size 8 period. He was gorgeous!! He had six pack abs and was trained in muy thai. We were married for three years. At the time that I signed the divorce papers I was a size 20!!!! He had gotten disgusted. He went to school for Personal Training, so of course he tried everything to help me loose the weight I was gaining. I stopped gaining weight for a little while.

I met my current honey when I was a size 20. Going on four years later, I now wear a size 24, coming very close to wearing a size 26 (my size 24 jeans are tight) its not pretty.

I don’t eat a lot. I try to watch what I eat. I don’t drink soda. But I don’t exercise; I sit at a desk all day. This is one on my problems. But it hurts my knees to work out. I do try to walk with my dogs, but my schedule does not permit this everyday. I have come to realize recently that I am a closet eater and an emotional eater. By getting the Lap Band I physically can’t overeat. I will hold my self responsible, because I am going thru surgery and putting myself thru this.

My honey is supportive even though he does not want me to do the surgery. He said he is willing to hold me accountable when it comes to exercise. But he will not police the food I eat. This is going to be all me.

I know that this is a long post, but it feels good to release come of this.

Why does it seem like i am the only person who wasn't told to go on a liquid diet of sorts before surgery??? :)

My date is on the 12th.

How long is everyone on a diet for ? days before or weeks before??

My surgery was in the 13th, and I was not put on any diet. I was suggested to go on a liquids 2-3 days before, but wasn't required.

KELLY: here is a huge cyber hug for ya!

We all have issues with eating, and I can relate some of your feelings... we are all getting ready to break up with our best friend and worst enemy.. FOOD... gone will be the ability to use it for comfort, stress relief, sadness, happiness, loneliness... no longer will be be able to soak our sorrows in a LARGE pizza, or pint of icecream....... and THAT to me is scarey as hell..... so working out our acknowledgement of our feelings BEFORE surgery is important so that we don't eat around the band and sabotage our efforts.

Kelly,

I so understand where you are coming from! Without question I was not at all happy about being "put to sleep".. In the end, it was fine.. You might call your surgeon and ask them about a Valium to take the day before, but honestly, you will be given something in the IV before they wheel you back.

"Is the surgery worth it...?" Well that is a question only you can answer for yourself. I asked that same EXACT question.. Here are my thoughts "HELL YES!" I am almost 40 and I knew that if I did not get my weight under control now, I was most certainly going to end up going under the knife for something like heart issues. Remember, this is not getting plastic surgery, this is about getting healthy for life. A lapband is a fantastic tool for that effort.

As for love life and weight loss.. oh man, as you can see first hand, it's tough, when you look at your 1st marriage.. My wife and I are about the same amount over weight, and we are now both banded, so we'll lose together. You didn't mention if your current hubby was chubby or not, but I have heard of cases where one side loses a LOT of weight and the other does not, and how this causes trouble.

Just a general thought, our choice to band, in the end, should be about our long term health, and perhaps while selfish to say this, in the end, our health should take 1st place to anyone else's wishes. Just in my opinion only, if any bandster purposely sabotaged their success because of a chubby hubby who started getting insecure, that is a huge mistake.. (just speaking in general here, not about you)

You are going to do great, focus on the road ahead and not the near term hurdle of surgery. It goes by faster than I thought, and honestly, it really was way easier than I thought it would be.

Good luck!

Mike

... although I was a prisoner in the recliner I was sleeping in. I couldn't make it sit up and I couldn't reach the handle to put the footrest down!.... :speechles

After not getting any rest the first two nights, I tried sleeping in the recliner as well. Unforunately, the same thing happened to me...I got stuck in one position, and I couldn't get the thing to work right.

babygirl: that is nice of him to get you a treadmill!

It is very nice of him. However, he does want to use it too. Even though he has always been one of those bone skinny never has to do anything kind of people, his lifestyle of eating a bag of reeses and 4 hot pockets for dinner has finally caught up to him. So he wants to work out too.

So did anyone get anything fun for valentines day?

Thank You Tracy I am glad to see that you stayed with us even though you have to wait a little bit longer. The April Bandsters can’t steal you away from us!

Thank You Mike! My honey is not big. He has a few extra pounds but not over weight. He has been on the Adkins for about a month and has more than 18 lbs already. He supports me, but would rather me try one more time to loose it the old fashion way. Sometime he doesn’t understand. He is 5 years younger than I. He supports me because what I am doing is making me happy or going to make me happy. He has always said he loves me for who I am not what I look like. I wish everyone should have someone like him…

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
