February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the replies and stuff. I know my doc just said that it's best to have my liver as small as possible so the surgery will go better. I feel like i've been eating the last supper everyday.. ugh!! I can't stop the feeling hungry.

10 days til surgery - woohoo!

I want to get into a size 10-12 ! That's my goal - I have big bones! :)

Tracy am i reading correctly, Are you approved????

Chris, my MD requires 2 weeks pre-op consisting of 3 slim fast ultima shakes a day and any other non-dairy liquids. It is strange to me that there are so many variations of the pre-op diet requirements also! I'm hoping everyone who had their surgery today had an easy time of it! Have a great weekend, Y'all!

Hello everyone! I had my surgery this morning. I'm doing fine so far. Just feels like someone hit me hard in the stomach... Just Sore! I haven't had any gas pain yet... I hope they don't come later! Seems like I would have them by now. I had my surgery around 9:00 A.M. One advise I would give is not to wear a real nice shirt, because my incisions drained a little and got on my shirt in several places. I never really got that nervous. They kept me busy at the surgery center.... GOOD LUCK to all of you future bandsters.

Well gang, Im now about 18 hours post op. I am suprised that the pain is as little as it is. I hope everyone else has this experience!

Surgery was REALLY fast. From the time they wheeled me to the OR, til I went home was about 4 hours...surgery and all!!!!

I was real impressed with how fast it went. The experience was great.

I started my week 1 post op diet today, which is basically sugar free clear liquid diet. Its not too bad as I really am not hungry at all so far.

Best wishes to everyone!

Greg

Silry. Where are you having surgery and what doc? Most have to go on a pre-op diet. But I think I read somewhere (another thread, sorry I can't remember where) that someone didn't have to do a a diet or much of one. The reason for the diet is to shrink your liver. Saftey for you and for the surgeon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
