February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Howdy, Y'all! I've been lurking and reading this thread but I didn't want to give myself bad luck by posting here until I knew for sure that I was scheduled for Feb. but it's final now.. . .Feb. 23rd is my date!! Woo-Hoo! I was originally scheduled in Dec. and posted a few times on that thread but my surgery had to be post-poned due to developing a pretty severe case of pneumonia and my surgeon was unavailable for most of Jan. so February it is! My BMI is 36.9 and I am hoping to lose around 75 pounds. My insurance has a written exclusion for any type of bariatric surgery so I am taking a $14,500 hardship withdrawal from my 401K to pay for the surgery. I am a little nervous about that but consider it a good investment in my future. My surgeon requires a 2 week pre-op diet consisting of 3 slim-fast optima shakes a day and any clear liquids. I am not looking forward to that! I am so excited for each of Y'all! Congrats to our "first born" who are starting us off tomorrow! I hope for a fast and easy recovery and great success for each of you! Here we go!!!!!!!! :clap2:

Mary

my doc. doesn't use the Optifast, he has us use BariatriX supliment. I don't know if it is better or worse, but I get to start it in 2 weeks. That scares me more than the surgery

Hello All you Fine Fabulous February Bandsters!

As I promised I read through all 16 pages of this thread and I am finally glad to meet you.:clap2: My surgery is Feb 12 and I have almost 4 days of my pre-op liquid diet done and yes it is nasty. I drink 3-4 Atkins and one V8 a day. I had awful headaches the first 2 days but they have subsided considerably now. Those of you who get to actually chew something consider yourselves lucky. My treat for the day is my chewable multi and my Calcium (I take Citracal and it is really pretty good).

Tracy - Congratulations on your approval

Silry - thanks for you encouragement

Kedasmom- A bandster buddy! yes it was a lucky break to move ahead a month AND Feb 12 is a lucky day

Feb 1 Bandsters- Good Banding!!!! I look forward to hearing all about your banding.

Good Journey,

Terri

I am done with day 3 of the liquid preop YEAH! almost halfway there. Today was not easy my insurance is still pending so I am self paying until the insurance approval comes through. It should be the day before my surgery but my MD needs to be paid and so does the hospital if you dont have the auth in your hand. Oh well, I hope I get reimbursed, if not I think it is worth it. I want to live a long healthy life.

Good Luck Susannah, cant wait to hear how you are doing!

Babygirl- four more days for you and I !!!!

yippeeee :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Why does it seem like i am the only person who wasn't told to go on a liquid diet of sorts before surgery???

My date is on the 12th.

How long is everyone on a diet for ? days before or weeks before??

my doc gives a few choices. you can do in the induction phase of Atkins for a few weeks, do 12 days of 2 shakes a day then one light meal for dinner, or one other that i can't remember. i chose to do the 12 day preop diet of the shakes/light meal.

every doc is different. did you doc give you any instructions for preop? from what i've read, most people get some sort of preop diet. although i did see one lady who only had to drink Clear Liquids 12 hours before her surgery! consider yourself lucky if you don't have to do anything!!! i'm totally dreading my 12 day diet. if i could stick to 12 days of dieting... well... i wouldn't be on this journey. LOL :P

my doctor, has one week preop of liquid diet. Three impact advance recovery shakes ( after taste of fish because it has cod liver oil in it yuck) and clear liquids. Then post op two weeks of liquids only....From what I have read on these posts every doctor is different. The biggest reason is they like to shrink your liver because it is so close to the stomach, it makes the surgery easier for the surgeon.

Good Luck!

Kelsy,

My doctor is only making me do one day of liquids and that is the day before my surgery on 2/15. Otherwise, he said I could eat what I want to up to that point. Of course, my liquid diet is on Valentines Day but I will comply.

Sharon

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
