Has anyone used Dr. Thomas Walter Umbach in the last year?

I am looking at Dr. Thomas Walter Umbach as my surgeon because I am self pay and he seems to have reasonable rates. I am looking for your experience with him? Thank you! Jolie

I am currently using him. I am 2 weeks pre-op. I will say that the staff is amazing, and everyone seems to do their jobs. They are very nice, and helpful, and the office is so beautiful and fun to go to. Dr. Umbach is a nice man, and definitely knows what he is doing. I have total confidence in him as a surgeon. He is a tiny bit socially awkward, and seems to be really tired when you see him in the office. He depends on the other staff to inform you on the status and happenings of surgery. So, by the time you get to him you have next to no questions to ask. He is willing to answer any questions you do have, and take any time you need. The nutritionist there is very knowledgeable, and willing to educate you on how to eat properly. She can get a little preachy and go off on tangents about different things that go right over my head, but it just shows me she is very passionate about her job. The hospital that Dr. Umbach uses is called North Vista Hospital in North Las Vegas. It is kind of a hole in the wall hospital. It's old but the staff there are super nice. All in all so far I'd say I'm pretty impressed. CAN NOT wait to have the surgery! Good luck! If you have more questions let me know!

Hi Muffinsmomma,

May I ask what price you are paying in Las Vegas? I am a selfpay, looking to schedule in March 2014, and researching prices to see if travel is worth it.

Many Thanks

Hi,

Um I am not sure what the self pay price is, but I do know he has a very competitive price, and I know a lot of his patients travel to Las Vegas to use him. They help you find a great hotel to stay in, and their staff is amazing and I believe they set up your whole trip. I had my insurance cover it, and I am from Vegas, but the pre-op class I went to at his office was full of people from all over. Some from Louisianna, Georgia, etc. so I know his office helps a lot of people all over the country. Just give them a call. The reseptionist is very nice and they will answer any questions you have.

Oh also I just had my surgery done 2 days ago. The people there were AMAZING! Someone met me right as I walked into the hospital, and walked me through the whole thing. Also there is a lady named Mindy who is from Dr Umbach's office that was there. She herself had the surgery last year and had lost 100lbs. She was so nice and also was there the entire time checking on you and making sure you were okay. I would highly recommend using him. I am terrified of hospitals, doctors and surgery, and I am so thankful they took such great care of me!

I had a gastric sleeve with Umbach Feb 6 2014 and cannot say enough good things about him and his skills! I have not had as much as an aspirin since the operating room. Not because I am toughing out the pain but I simply have not had any at all. I came home the same day as the procudeure and I KNOW that I picked the right surgeon! I was a cash patient and it cost me $11,100.

I too went to Dr Umbach and had a great pain free experience. I love his staff and him as a Physician that knows his stuff. I was out walking the strip in Vegas the day after the procedure. I would totally recommend him. My surgery was April 24th and I am feeling amazing!
