The 5:2 diet

Recommended Posts

You and the others on this site are all adults. Just know when the vets say something, or give advice, they are not doctors or nuts....but do have the unique perspective of living through some of the semi advanced stages of this process.. and when they say they don't think it is necessarily a good idea for sleevers who are only months out and still in the "honeymoon" stage to take on a somewhat experimental diet, without your Drs or nutritionists consent, they are speaking from some experience you might not have had yet. Just saying. We have also spoken out against people taking diet pills, drinking alcohol early out, and binging and purging. This 5:2 plan may be harmless and even beneficial, but the jury is still out. You will be living with your sleeve for a LONG time, and I recommend you take time, get to your goal or near goal, and if you are not at goal by a year or so, or are having a hard time maintaining using your hard learned skills, then jump in with the rest of us....IF we find it is so great that we are still doing it! Cheers and congratulations on getting the sleeve! My 2 cents.

So update.. After finishing my first fast day yesterday of my second week I'm holding steady at 168 (no loss today) last week I started at 171 I had been stuck at the number for months. After first week of the fast I went down to 169 which was very exciting! After a major party and much alcohol I went down to 166!! (dehydration I know) Evened out at 168. I'm good with it and I know my body well enough to know it will probably stay there this week.

Oh and the first two fast days I was grumpy and off yesterday being my third, I felt a lot better

So I am just wondering if you have noticed it on your body. Are your clothes looser or fitting better?? Because you are so low already, almost 10lbs would probably make a huge difference. I know it does for me, even 5 lbs makes a big difference at this point on how things fit. I am very inspired by what you have been doing and I am giving it a go today....although I just ate some gumballs to realize I ate 30 calories worth of gum (doesn't sound like much, but when you only have 500 calories it sure is!)

Yes, I notice it but I am not really small. 5'8". And since I HAD been comfortably in size 8 and now in 10/12 I relish the feeling. Trying to lose the additional 10 lbs to get back to goal!!

Oh, I am so hoping for that feeling of getting back into my clothes. I still wear the same size, but they are tight as opposed to comfy. I had switched medications back in February and gain 7 lbs in 3 weeks. I quit taking the medication but cannot shake the pounds I gained.

So I followed through today! It took everything in me at some points, but I did it. I like the fact that I can eat the next day, I think that is what kept me going! I managed 534 calories, and that was with eating some chewing gum and a Calcium Chew (which has 20 calories!). I am wondering how to keep my Protein up. I got in 54 grams, but that was with a Protein Shake for Breakfast. Any ideas welcome.

I am not the best at keeping up with things, so I am hoping that I can stick to this! I am a stay at home mommy, so it was tough being at home with the kids and food just steps away in the cupboard! But, for the first time in a while, I am actually really proud of myself for sticking to it. I am thinking that it might only get easier as I adjust, we will see. I might switch to Tuesdays/Thursdays next week...is that what seems to work the best, or should the fast days be a little farther apart.

I better go to bed now as I am having problems focusing! I have never been so excited to eat yogurt and berries with bran buds as I am right now thinking about tomorrow!

Super sweeties, Tu and Thurs work best for me. I really don't worry about how much Protein as opposed to healthy food on fast day but if you have eggs, chicken, turkey, tuna, cheese, Protein Shake, Protein Powder you should be able to get your Protein. At 3 years out, I really don't count stuff other than NOW calories, carbs, healthy.

I DO eat my protein first and usually have chicken or lean turkey franks on normal days as well as salads, guacamole, skin milk cheese like babybel or laughing cow.

My "rest/fast" is day today. I kind of look forward to it actually. I know there are challenges when food is around... but if I pre fix my meals/snacks for work, its easier, and time flys. So lost a little more.... from 196 high this year, to 186.8 this morning. Last time I was this low was last year. Im going to beat this regain yet! about 12 pounds to get to my lowest, and 18 to goal.

planned menu:

iced Decaf with ESA carb control chocolate Protein Drink thrown in. (trying to keep Breakfast and lunch low carb on rest days to keep the fat burning going a little longer.)

snack/lunch: cut up cucumbers and veggies with lite laughing cow cheese

dinner: I think Im going for a veggie burger with cheese on romaine "bun" pickles , onions and lite mayo.< /p>

My knee(bone spurs) is bugging me so I'm taking a walk instead of going to the gym for a couple of days. ...having rest days for the knee too! Best of luck ladies!

Oh and by the way, I forget how to change my ticker... can anyone help with instructions... searched and couldnt find it this time....

I'm pretty good at getting my Protein first. After being sleeved for 2.5 years, the habits that I picked up in the beginning are pretty steadfast now. It is so frustrating because I was maintaining easily without issues until I started the new medication. I've always eaten really healthy and watched what I ate, taking an 85/15 approach, eat good 85% of the time, but enjoy a treat every once in a while. It was been very depressing not being able to lose on the same regiment that I have had for at least a year. Oh well, that's life I guess!

I think I will try more of what Laura did. At lunch I had a cucumber salad and an homemade egg muffin. But the muffin doesn't have as much Protein as the greek yogurt I usually eat. Might switch it up next time.

Good news is I was down 1.5 lbs this morning. I think it is mostly Water weight, but I do feel less bloated than the last couple of days (TOM), so I think it definitely helped with that.

Way to go, FYE! I know the "knees" part, too! Good thought, too, on the low carb Breakfast and dinner - they say to eat your highest the earliest in the day. Eat like a queen, like a princess and like a pauper. With my lifestyle, sometimes my "pauper" ends up being my "queen!"

Supersweetums, you look great. I dont think I could do it staying home. I want to "graze" all day long!!!

Yes staying home is the hardest! I'm a stay at home mom. My kids are a bit older (17 and 11)

So the last couple of fast days I spent a good part of the day shopping.

Downside of older kids? I don't keep junk in the house, so the 17 year old has been going and buying major crap and bringing the 11 year old along! I tried to talk to her about it last night.

Lets just say it wasn't pretty..

Sweetums,

I do tues. & thurs. too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
