Is true that every surgeon is different... I didn't have to do a pre op diet, rather they made lose weight with healthy eating habits... and it was hard. However, I can tell you that getting use to drinking liquids now, is going to be so helpful post op. Focus on the goal ahead... Trust me, I am only 4 days post op and so far I have NO REGRETS!!!!

I was so lucky. My doctor required a 2 week low-carb diet to shrink the liver to prepare for the laproscopic surgery. I don't understand the purpose of the liquid pre-op diet. But hang in there. You will be much less hungry after a couple of days, and start to focus more on the upcoming surgery and life thereafter as a healthy, happy person! I was sleeved 2 days ago and am feeling good so far!

I'm in the same boat. I'm 2 days into the liquid pre-op diet and it's so hard! My family is eating around me...I had to go to the food store to get more chicken broth and everything smells so good. My stomach is growling...ugh. I'm so hungry. I keep thinking am I doing the right thing? But, I think that's the hunger talking LOL I'm hoping after it's all said and done it will be easier for both of us :)

Hey lady! Can you have a different type of Protein Shake? Do you have some one that can go get different ones for you? I am used to them now but when I first started drinking them pre surgery for my band they tasted awful to me. There is one that isn't as bad as the others IMO the Atkins Daybreak chocolate shake. It isn't as thick as the others and sort of reminds me of yoohoo or choc milk. Hang in there hon. This too shall pass.

I started trying shakes before I have my surgery and after 6 or 7 that made me gag, I finally found one that is decent. (And reasonable priced!!) it is the Premier Protein shakes that are chocolate. I got mine at Sams but I think I read that they were at costco also. :) good luck!!

Hang in there. You can do it. I won't lie - the first month is hell, but it can, will, and does get easier. Keep your mind busy with other things...walk, read, movies, etc...work on Protein, Water, and walking...you will do fine. Best of luck to you!!

The first three days of the pre-op diet were absolutely hell for me. I was so hungry and miserable, compounded by the fact that I was giving up caffeine at the same time! There were some things I was supposed to be eating that I absolutely could not stomach. I checked their nutritional profiles carefully and found some substitute items that had the same or better profiles and used those instead. I'm not talking about having a hamburger or even some roast chicken in place of the disgusting "protein smoothie" I was given, just making my own Protein smoothie with the same calories, more protein, fewer carbs and sugars, and actually tasty!

Not that I am suggesting you do the same thing, I know following doctor's orders is sacrosanct here. But otherwise I don't think I could have kept going with the diet because that stuff they made me buy was truly horrendous.

Anyway, after the third day, things really did get better. I woke up with lots of energy and not as hungry at all.

Try to keep moving and doing things to take your mind off food -- I am doing lots of housework, giving the dog extra walks, going shopping to make sure I have all my post-op food, drinks, etc. -- anything to keep me going and my mind busy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
