Introduction - Planning to be Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Hello Group,

Just wanted to introduce myself and my journey to the forum!

I'm 27yrs and I've been overweight since 2003. I weigh 269lbs & I'm 5'7. I have tried Weight Watchers (lost 20lbs and gained all of it back), low calorie diets, Slimfast, Slim Quick, exercise and Phetermine. And the weight keeps coming! I'm pretty active and I still can't seem to lose much weight.

I started looking into weight loss surgery about 2 weeks ago. Probably like many of you, I ate, slept, breathed weight loss surgery! I looked at Lapband but after reading about food getting "stuck" I was COMPLETELY turned off! I decided on VSG! My cousin has recently had the sleeve done (1/2013) and she looks AMAZING!

I have scheduled my consultation for June 27th (the day before my Bday). Meanwhile, I have enjoyed reading some of the journeys on here and continue to research the sleeve. I'm anxiously waiting to start this new lifestyle!!!

Can't wait!!! I'm a pretty confident girl but I can only imagine what life will be like when I can shop at normal stores (and not plus-size online stores)! Ugh!

How long did your process take? From Consult to Surgery date?

How long did your process take? From Consult to Surgery date?

My process went faster than normal. I attended orientation March 1 and had surgery April 23. During those few weeks, I squeezed in the mental health appointments (2), NUT appointment, and pre-op diet. It helped that I was already at "goal weight" when I met with the surgeon! I used that info to get in earlier to see MH and NUT. They all worked to get me in FAST!

Whoa! I'm hoping to get it done in 3 month time... Gives my job time to find coverage for my absence and me enough time to prepare for the new eating habits! I've been research hung my Protein powders and vitamins... I have an Amazon cart full! Lol

It's tough no matter how prepared you are, but one day at a time!

Yesterday was my consult and things went great! I had, proactively, scheduled my PCP surgery clearance, baseline labs, X-ray, EKG, upper Gi, and support group meeting... All to be done before July 16! At the office visit I was scheduled for the Nutritionist and Psychologist. The psych appt isn't until August! No BUENO! Lol, I think I can handle waiting a month.

The Dr. Wasn't as bad at this visit as I heard he can be. He was actually pretty nice... We'll see what he's like further down the road.

Well today is my Bday and I still get to indulge in alcohol so I'm heading to Margaritaville! Just wanted to write my update before I start drunk-texting!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
