Pain in center of chest after drinking.

Recommended Posts

I am having pain that kind of feels like gas pains but happens when I drink the most. But it does happen by itself even if I don't have nothing to drink. I am only 2days post op. if any one could tell me if this is normal.

I'd say it's pretty normal. I had it after each sip for at least 4 days out. Got better each day. Gone now when drinking liquids.< /p>

I'm 4days post op and today I've been having the same trouble after every time I take a drink of something, I was really concerned because it wasn't happening yesterday, I did have a hiatal hernia repair done and didn't know if it was related or not. The pain is right below my sternum and lasts a minute or so. I'm having a hard time getting my fluids in today because of it.

Yea I get my liquids in just pretty uncomfortable doing so but I just don't want to get dehydrated or anything so I just try to fight through the pain. Some times is worse than others.

Completely normal, It's like esophagus spasms.

My dr gave me a med that would help. But even now at three months out I have horrible chest pains if I drink to fast or too much. You will learn your body/sleeve but it might take awhile. Good Luck and congrats on your new journey!

Totally normal. It will get better every day, and will go away after a couple of days.

You might be drinking too fast, I know sometimes I do, then I get that pain. Maybe gas.. using GasX and walk as much as I can. Hope it gets better soon

I was sleeved 5/22 with a hernia repair and I have the same thing. Every drink I get what feels like a gas bubble under my sternum, but it usually goes away pretty quickly (usually after I burp). My surgeon explained it to me like our stomachs are a clogged drain and when liquids go down it can "glug" air back up. I hope it goes away soon!

Try drinking smaller sips or only swallowing part of the liquid in your mouth. Then when that passes, swallow the rest. I'm almost 3 weeks out and it most definitely does get better. Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
