Finally off the plateau... I hope :/

Recommended Posts

I've been extremely dedicated to my workouts and diet again and I think I'm FINALLY off that darn plateau I've been on for the last several months. I'm down another 9 lbs. but I'm so afraid it's going to yo-yo right back on. Totally revamped my diet and counting every single think I eat, drink, etc. Best part of all of this is that I've found more inner strength and I'm pushing myself harder because I know I can do it. I ran for the first time today since high school. So weird to think that it's been THAT long since I ran! Best part is that I could actually do it, sad part is that I had forgotten how to run! So anyway, that is all. I just realized I hadn't posted for a while :) hope everyone is doing great!

That's so wonderful!!! I don't think at this point I could run to save my life! haha! You look great in your profile before & after pics! Can't believe you've lost 200 lbs in 6 months!! Can you even believe it when you look in the mirror?? That's so awesome! God bless you!!

I do remember now reading a post of yours & that you had Dr. Carlin. I met him recently & I would have loved for him to do my surgery but I was so turned off by my experience at HF that I'm going elsewhere now. Hope the doc at the new hospital will impress me as much as Dr. Carlin did.

Yeah, Dr. Carlin was awesome and although I've felt the office seems to have dropped he ball in areas, he was worth it. I lost 180 by my 1 year, even though being down 200 in 6 months would of been nice! LOL Good luck with your surgery and keep me updated on your progress! God bless!

My respect for Dr. Carlin couldn't out weigh the horrible experience I had at HF, so after much consideration, I made an appt at Beaumont & started the process with them last week. Luckily I won't have to re-do any of the tests I already did thru HF. I will pop in from time to time to let you know how things are moving along but it sounds like I may still be able to have summer surgery, which was my wish.

Sorry I messed up on your weight loss but you're still moving along quite rapidly!

Blessings to you as well!

I am so glad to find another woman on VST who had their sleeve at more than 300 #. I started at 408 and lost 15 before surgery.

June 19th will be three months post-op. I've lost a total of 73 #. It has taken two weeks to lose the last three pounds which is a bit of a let down losing 70 # so quickly.

Thanks for the post.

Great job!, I am glad to see you rededicated. It is so easy to slide back into our old habits isn't it? Tracking is a great way to keep straight. Absolutely, you can do it!!!

I too have been at a stall for the last 3 weeks.. but then ive been laid up with a surgery I wasnt expecting.. so I was really not doing anything.. but back to the grind.. I had still be going to the gym and walking and doing the treadmill. and walking laps.. but now im back to work.. and I see now my weight has dropped 2lbs.. so maybe the stall is over for me.. not sure.. but in any case I was close to 300lbs when I started.. Im almost post op 6mo and im down 95lbs.. so I think that is great.. I cant wait to get to onederland.. im so close I can taste it.. you are doing a fantastic job.. keep up the great work.. I too thought maybe if I change my diet.. but I think it was just because I was idle for awhile.. so I think ive kick started my wt loss again.. im hoping.. have a great journey. :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
