It was brought up that the math for the calories and Protein could be wrong. they have it as 135cal. and 14g of Protein. Ill be checking my math tomorrow morning. either way its still a good.

Taco pizza

Ingredients:

tn_gallery_39013_5259_1924102.jpg

- One medium-large sized egg

- 1lb lean ground beef (also good with ground chicken)

- One pack of taco seasoning (I used the reduced sodium one)

- 1/2 can of refriend Beans

- 1/2 bag of reduced fat cheese

- 1/2 can of salsa (I use chunky)

Extras:

- Light sour cream

- Lettuce

- Onion

- Peppers

Any Veggies you want to add go right a head.

Directions:

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees and either wrap a pizza pan or baking sheet with tin foil and spray it with non-stick cooking spray.

Mix ground beef and egg in a large bowl. Then slowly add the taco seasoning till it becomes doughy. Start spreading out ground beef on the tin foil like a pizza. You want it about 1/4in. thick.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_764304.jpg

Once you have it spread out place in the oven for 20-25 mins. After you take it out cut into it a bit to make sure it’s fully cooked. If it looks good use paper towels to wipe of all the extra taco seasoning and grease that his leaked out from cooking.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_517955.jpg

This is what it will look like before wiping it off. Below is what it should look like after wiping if off.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_1608207.jpg

Now add your refried Beans and spread it out over you ground beef crust.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_2169004.jpg

Now add you salsa the same way.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_672784.jpg

Now you add the cheese to the top.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_642734.jpg

Put taco pizza back into the oven for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.

tn_gallery_39013_5259_780175.jpg

I cut my pizza into 10 slices. This gives me two slices a day for 5 days at work (my first and second breaks).

tn_gallery_39013_5259_3055102.jpg

Add any extra toppings to it and enjoy. If you cut your pizza into 10 slices and just add light sour cream it comes to about 300 cal. and 38g of protein a slice.

Just thinking. It would take me 2 weeks to eat it. I may start with a reg patty and make it the size of a mini personal pizza.< /p>

Now I'm hungry ;)

Looks like a cool recipe. I'm kind curious though. How did you calculate the nutrition on this? (forgive me I am a chef and I am always looking at this stuff). I have app that I use at work and hashed this through it based on your post and got 135 kcals, 9g carbs 5g fat 14g Protein and 572 g of sodium for 1/10 of the recipe. Are you saying that a serving is 2/10s of your "pie"? which would make sense looking at the NV. Again just curious, I'm a food science geek and these are things that always appeal to me.

I might have done the math wrong. I checked it twice but that doesn’t mean I didn’t do it wrong. Ill takes the title down till I check it again. but what I did was add up all the calories for each ingredient and divided it by ten because I cut it into ten pieces. Like for the Beans the can was 8 servings. So I used a half a can so when I took the calorie part from the can I timed it by 4 because I used for servings. I did this with everything. I did the same thing with the Protein. I figured that was the right way to do it.

Ill do the math again when I get home and see what I get.

Does this sound right to you?

The vote is in! My family and I loved this recipe!

I used lean ground turkey instead of ground beef. It cooked up fine, and I utilized the paper-towel method to soak up any excess fat that cooked off that you recommended, TapSnap! I have not tried to eat any red meat as of yet since I was "sleeved". I'm still cautious about my tummy...

I also added a teaspoon of fresh avocado (with a squeeze of lemon juice) for my "topping" after I melted the cheese in the oven. That was a great treat too!

Thank you for posting this recipe, TapSnap!

I love recipe sharing :)

Sounds great! I made crab cakes from a recipe from my book, "recipes for after Weight-Loss Surgery". They were made with no flour or corn meal to "bind" them.

I have been gluten-free since surgery. I have Lupus--and I think gluten-free eating has helped my joint pain.

If anybody's interested in the crab cake recipe, I'll post it but I have not found a recipe in my book as much as I liked your recipe for taco pizza!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
