Feeling really scared

Recommended Posts

Tuesday is my surgery and all of the sudden the fear has kicked in. I am so scared to have this surgery and don't know what to expect when I wake up. Am I really going to be able to do this. Am I really going to lose the 100 lbs I need to lose. Just feeling unprepared emotional and flat out scared.

welll... go down the line with it... WHAT IF... what if you wake up with pain... ? Answer: You will get medicine..? what else... answer your own questions rationally... I realized that while i may have some fear... what i really want is attention when im being scared... Im sure you have struggled with this weight thing for some time like the rest of us... we have all questioned ourselves like WTF are we doing but u know what ... Your doing it... and it will be what it is... Be strong.. and if you have a higher power in your life... know this.. "He's got you" you good...

PS. This is what i will be saying to myself on thursday.. my surgery is on friday.. LOL

Think we are all scared when we do this, whether we admit it publicly or not.

When I arrived at hospital to have my surgery, I couldn't quite believe I was there and what I was going to do to my body. And that was despite me having spent around 18 months considering every aspect of the sleeve. But I went through with it two and a half weeks ago.

Has it been easy having this surgery? Not really, there were moments when it was physically hard. But as Lawrence says, you get meds to get through. There have also been times when my emotions kicked in and I seriously questioned what the heck I had done. But I kept reminding myself of the prize - better health, longer life.

Was it worth it? After only two and a half weeks, for me, yes. My diabetes is no more and in an amazing twist, the arthritis I have suffered for many years has gone into remission meaning I am off the chemotherapy drug used to control it and am now only injecting. A miracle.

We all experience this surgery differently. But we all do it for reasons that matter to us - keep that to the front of your mind cos your life is going to change. Good luck, stay strong on Tuesday and use this site for as much help and support as you need.

Jac

I can relate! I'm getting sleeved tomorrow at 9:45am and I'm scared, nervous, and jittery.

I just have to keep focused on why I'm doing this. I want my life back. I want to go skiing with my 10 year old this winter. I used to love to ski, but haven't been since around 1992 -- I just got too fat to fit in a ski boot (I have thick ankles) and I was afraid of tearing up my knees. I don't get to see him all the time -- he lives with my ex in California. He comes and visits for a week or so over winter break and for a month during the summer. We also see each other every other month or so for a weekend. Last year, he came up here over Christmas break, and I took him up to our local ski area twice -- he did really well in his lessons. I want to go skiing with him so bad. I believe that with this surgery, I will be able to do that.

Good luck to all of us this week!

I am post op May 6th and I almost cancelled I was so scared, even though I had band surgery in 12/11. It was so much easier than I thought it would be. You will be fine, I think cold feet are normal. You will be looking back in a few months so thankful you went through with it.

I had surgery on the 2nd. I'm so grateful to say that everything was great from start to finish. It took me about 4 days to feel like myself again, but my pain was tolerable. I took my pain meds every 6 hrs like the prescription said for the first 2 days home. Then just in the morning and evening the next day, then just the evening the next two days. I'm off meds and still have a little trouble with bending ALL the way down, but can do most things I need to with a modified squat/bend. I really need to use my arms to stand up, but it's getting easier everyday.

I didn't experience ANY issues like vomiting or nausea. I have been adding things into my diet, I'm on soft/mushies right now and everything has gone down just fine. I get a little gassy with some things, mostly the Protein shakes, but gas-x strips are working really well with that.

We all experience bumps in the road, but honestly, overall, I feel so good. A lot of that is just RELIEF that it's over, that I don't have to stress about it anymore because I was fighting to get this done since last July!

I wish you all luck - your nerves are completely normal and hopefully it will be a lot of worry for nothing. We're here for ya either way! Good luck to everyone with surgery this month - MAY SLEEVERS UNITE! :)

My surgery is Tuesday and I've had some moments of fear too. But I do a little "self talk" to remind myself that I'm doing the right thing for my health and KNOW I will succeed!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
