All, I was Sleeved in May of 2012 in SC but have a friend that is Self Pay and has to go to Mexico for Surgery. I think she is leaning towards Dr. Ortiz. Any Comments about him would help!! Thanks and hope all of you are doing well.

Yup - was there in February. I had a good experience there and am losing weight. You are welcome to read about the whole thing on my blog - tried to provide a lot of detail in hopes of helping others. Good luck! www.hoosierfatty.wordpress.com

I was there 4/15 and had a wonderful experience. It was everything I hoped it would be and even more. My bf was very skeptical but the staff and Drs even impressed him.

803Misty - I have a very good friend from SC that was sleeved last May by Dr. Ortiz and has had a wonderful experience. Actually I have 2 friends that have been sleeved by Dr. Ortiz and both are very happy with their choice. I'm scheduled for June 10th and can't wait!

Do not recommend him. I was sleeved by him on 8/7/2012. Never get surgery out of state/the country at a CLINIC! Find a hospital. I was asked to leave Dr. Ortiz's clinic the night I had surgery. I had a minor complication (which his PA vaguely explained) and could not even get myself out of bed. The nurses, who barely speak any English started packing for me and putting my stuff outside. They said they needed to get the room ready for the next "patient". And oh, you will never see Dr. Ortiz, hear from him, or be able to get in touch with him after your surgery, but you will receive annoying and systematic follow up emails that route you to a survey where you are asked about your progress - so you can further Dr. Ortiz's celebrity-like success.

Sorry you had a bad experience...I met three other girls there when I was getting sleeved and we all were very pleased with him and his staff. Yes, it did seem to be more of a clinic, but a very nice one. We all stayed there the night of our surgery. And there was one nurse that was more difficult to understand but she was very kind and accommodating to me. I was sick after the surgery and all night. I personally would recommend him to my friends and family.

Which Dr. Ortiz and out of which hospital?

My friends went to Ariel Ortiz at the OCC. I have never heard such things about Dr Ariel Ortiz.

It’s Dr. Ariel Ortiz that operates out of a clinic. Dr. Elias Ortiz operates out of a Hospital. I booked through A Lighter Me for him and surgery was at Mi Doctor Hospital. Very new, clean and modern! I saw Dr. Elias Ortiz several times during my stay.

Ariel Ortiz works out of OCC (obesity control center) it's a nice place. I didn't use him but I did consider him.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
