June 2013 Sleevers! "The List"

Recommended Posts

My favorite clear liquid is the seasoning packet from a package of Ramen noodles in 2 cups of hot Water. I add a scoop of non-flavered Protein and I'm ready to go! I also love this because when everyone else is eating I feel as though I'm getting real food also.

I so understand where you are coming from. I was sleeved on the 7th. I also had a hiatal hernia and 2 umbilical hernias. I left the hospital a little dehydrated and with a sprained neck. My worse pain came from the umbilical hernias. I sprained my neck getting either into or outta bed using my arms to either push my around or pull me up in bed. I have slept in my recliner since I got home. And it was my general practitioner that told me my neck was sprained.

I have sooooo had buyer's remorse but it is getting better. On the 6th day I was finally able to get in all my fluids and about half of the Protein. I still have neck pain' date=' but that is going away. I'm finally able to start seeing the end of the pain. I have to say I really love not being hungry ALL the time.

Good luck folks. It's hard and painful but it does get better. You'll wake up one day not needing pain meds and then you'll be able to conquer the world![/quote']

Question why didn't ur dr remove the hernia. My friend had the sleeve in may and the surgeon removed the hernia... and did not let her leave until she could keep down the liquids?? I wish u luck

I had my surgery June 10th. So' date=' I guess I'm 5 days post op. I have not had as easy a go at it as it seems others have had. Got to hospital that morning terrified, cried when my husband said goodbye and they wheeled me back. Waking up in recovery, I remember crying out in pain, then I blacked out again. The biggest incision is the only one that hurts and it HURTS. Surgery was around 7am. My 1st walk was around 4 or 5, I don't even think I woke up till noon. I had a morphine pump I could push a button when needed. I pushed the button about 4 times total while in hospital. I literally could not wake up. I kept passing out, couldn't shake the anesthesia. Monday night my blood pressure was high and I kept a temp of 99.5. I also had a few times where i remember dry heaving. I would have waves of nausea, but none since being released. Doc came in Tuesday morning, saw I had a small blister on one of my small incisions, still red but a teensy bit better. Since being released, the big incision is still painful and I still need some help picking something off the floor or getting up from laying position. I've also developed rashes and itch like crazy!! Going to see my surgeon this afternoon. My last antibiotic before leaving hospital was levaquin. Some people think that may have caused rashes and itching or it could be from morphine or blood thinners. Who knows, but it's driving me crazy. I'm only getting about 30-40 oz of liquid in. Gas SUCKED for several days, gas x strips do help. Today is better from gas though. I haven't felt hunger and have to force myself to drink. Hospital stay, I probably didn't need to pack anything other than a robe. I am ready to fast forward a couple weeks. I had severe buyers remorse, still do a little but I know it's got to get better and this too shall pass.[/quote']

OMG I have had the same exact experience as you Jhconnection I have had a rough time too. I feel your pain and discomfort. I can't take anything for pain because it makes me extremely nauseous and I haven't been able to keep no more than 30 oz if I'm lucky of fluids in. I'm so miserable. But this too shall pass. Hang in there.

I did have the hernias removed. The area they were located hurt worse than the area they went through for the sleeve. I could keep down liquids. It seems as though I slept all the time due to the pain meds. and didn't drink much....... I wish my insurance would have allowed to go to a different facility, but I HAD to be at a certain hosp.

My Surgeon opted to wait on repairing my hernia's as they don't do as well when you are heavy. We will do my hernia repairs when we do my Tummy Tuck next year.

My surgeon was going to wait to fix mine also but he had to repair them after he got in there and seen what a mess it was...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
