That's so CUTE that you guys are naming your bands!

Minipearl, I was thinking the same thing re: our "expecting". I'm getting my band March 5. That will give me plenty of time to come up with a good name. Maybe I should buy a baby naming book and really put some thought into it.

My boys are 17 and 15 now. I feared I might be going through early empty nest syndrome, now this proves it!

Susan when I get my band my mom, husband, and oldest son is the only one I will tell. Im sure they cant keep it a secret. But they have to know in case of complications, and hubby has to pay for it.But I can gurantee one thing so far no support here. My mom says I can lose the weight on my own, Im so tired of losing only to gain it back then some. I eat when I am bored which is most of the time. I can drink 2 2liters of pop a day I sure will miss my pop but it has gotta go. Ijust cant hardly wait. It will be my first time flying, Im scared yet excited ya know. I hope to lose about 60pds or more.

Minipearl,

I have given up the pop cold turkey. It was hard but I am definitely getting used to it now.

I was happy about my sister's reaction so far. Considering her reaction when I even mentioned it to her before.

I would pay $30,000 before I would tell my dad, LOL.

Hi,

My name is Laura and I also have a lower BMI (5'4, 195lbs.) so I will be paying out of pocket and going out of the states to get my surgery done. Probably Canada, since I am in Ohio it is much closer than Mexico. Has anyone been to the TLBC in Toronto? My main questions are about the bands. I know the Inamed is the only band in the USA that is FDA approved, but has anyone heard when/if the Swedish band (by Johnson & Johnson) is going to be FDA approved in the US. I have heard the swedish band has less complications, but that was only from one doctors office. What Band have you gotten? If you didn't get the Inamed, is it hard to find a fill doctor in the states with the swedics band or mid-band. HELP...I need good information.

Thanks! I really love this site!

Laura

Welcome!!! I don't think the Swedish band is going to be approved here anytime soon, as I think people would be talking about it. There are a few banded here with Swedish bands. In the little I tried to poke around, they seem very similar. I bought Dr. Ortiz's book and I will look there to see if he says anything about the Swedish band, I think I recall he does. We mostly all here, have the Inamed band.

You may want to post on the main thread calling all swedish bandsters!!!

But, you are welcome to this thread since no matter what band you get, you are a lower bmi. Lower bmi's tend to have a little different issues than higher bmi's, like slower weight loss.:welcome2:

Susan you say you are as hungry as before the band? Is that when you know you need a fill, if your not getting full? Does the soft foods and liquds fill you up, or did they right after surgery? Im still waiting on money to come in for mine, watching you and audree.

I am 2 weeks post op and still restricted.:clap2: I have trouble finishing a cup of creamy split pea Soup. I have trouble getting enough calories in and I am really trying to. I even bought some of that yummy nacho cheese you put on nachos and put a tablespoon into my creamy soups! It is good!!!

I think I only got about 750 calories in today.

Hey,

I am a lower BMI I started out at 36.7. I have not lost much just about 25 pounds. I am a slow loser.

ITs nice to have this. I am glad I saw it.

I try to walk 2 miles a day. I do it a least 3 times a week. I eat what I wont. Untill now. I will do better and eat the bandster way.

I do eat out of boradom. And I like good food. Boy do I need hel:help:

I guess that is the frist step to a new life. THere should be something like aaa for food like faa. ( hi my name is Stacey and I like to eat) :clap2: :clap2: ( I eat when?)

There actually is an AA for food called OA for Overeaters Anonymous.I used to go. It would be good to go. I may go to a meeting with one of my friends who was struggling.

Do you need a fill? Maybe that is why you are able to get the food in. I can barely eat or I fee like I am getting nauseous. And I am trying to so I can get some calories in.

This is a good place. I journal everyday, what I eat, how I feel and this group keeps each other accountable. The bandster rules are very important my doctor has told me to be successful faster.

:welcome2:

I am Susan but not sure if you meant me or someone else.

I think I am hungry because my swelling has gone down a lot and I haven't had a fill yet. I am definitely struggling this week with staying on target with all liquids. I have been a cheater by having some things I shouldn't have (see Taco Bell Bean Burrito post above :( ). Luckily I didn't suffer any consequences for that action although I was really stressed about it for the entire rest of the day.

I am going to make my fill appointment as soon as I can. The week or so right after surgery, I think I felt like a normal human being feels for the first time in my life. I went to my sister's for the weekend and she had offered me Godiva chocolate cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory and I just had zero desire for it. The thought of eating it made me really want to YAK.

I went back there yesterday and thank God she didn't offer me anything like that this week, LOL. Cuz I am hungry this week.

On a plus note I have absolutely zero pain anywhere anymore. I know the tissue isn't quite healed yet but I feel great. So that part is good. Even my port site, which stayed the sorest longest has no pain anymore either.

I dont' have any pain anymore either!!! YYAAAYYY:clap2:

I do still have a lot of restriction and can't eat enough to get over 850 calories a day. I am striving for 1000, but I feel nauseous if I eat over a cup. I am trying to get some creamy split pea down, even added some yummy nacho cheese to it. I ate a cup, had two litte bites more and Bandy is telling me to STOP. One more bite and I am going to be sick. I already feel slightly nauseous.

Before banding or after? Or now?

Audree, I want to start South Beach in another week when I can move to mushies.

Anyone have any good ideas for a name for my band. I was thinking of Brandy, but that's too close to Audree's name.

I had a bad day today for the first time. I really wanted to eat. My doc wants four weeks on liquids and I am feeling sorry for myself. It's because a lot of other people can move to mushies after 3 weeks. I am at 3 weeks tomorrow. I am going out with my daughter tomorrow. I am tired of being cooped up in the house. I haven't wanted to be around anyone else eating in front of me. She had gastric bypass. She knows the only thing I can have right now is egg flower Soup. I may fall off the wagon and eat a bite of chicken. I really want to do as my doctor says but I don't see why he thinks he knows more than Dr. Ortiz. Part of me really wants to try really hard to do another week on liquids because I am so afraid I'll stop losing. I don't get a fill until 2-12. I am sure I have no restriction because I can down a can of low carb slim fast in nothing flat. I looked on the can and it's 11 oz.

I don't know what kind of band I have other than my doc said it's medium sized.

It's funny that there isn't a standard price and a standard diet for this. I paid 10,000 but there was lab work that was required not included in that price. It didn't come to much though.

Well I am so glad all of you are here. You are all what is getting me through this!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I am on day 7 and feeling much better. Although I think that I am finally less restricted, which stinks b/c I was hoping that I would be one of those that doesn't need a fill for 3,4,5 months. I was aloud to move on to soft foods today, which I was going to try and put off for as long as I could but ended up having a couple of bites of yogurt and oatmeal (splenda and Cinnamon only) because I have had a horrible headach probably due to very low calorie intake (like maybe if lucky 500) and felt fine, I probably only ate a 1/4-1/2 C but didn't even get that lump full feeling like I have in the past with even Soup.

I also just realized that I am the giant amung all of you, most of you are hovering around 5ft while I am a good 6" (really 6"1). My BMI was a 35.5 when I started, I am not going to wiegh myself for the first couple of weeks but can tell that clothes I wasn't comfortable in just a week ago are now comfortable. (which I am sure is mostly Water wieght)

Hope everyone has a good weekend,

Sara

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
