How long afture insurance approval is your surgery typically scheduled for?

Recommended Posts

Once they know they will get their money, how long is it usually before the surgery is actually scheduled?

I'm scheduled (5/22!) & waiting for approval. That being said, my surgeon's team makes sure their patients do all the things & meet all the criteria before they even submit to the insurance so there's little chance of being denied.

I just want to know for sure already!!!!

I was scheduled before approved. Still not approved and my date is May 16th. I think they know which insurances work quickly and who doesn't. I have BCBS of Mass PPO.

Hi all I'm new to the forum. I have been at this preop mess since end of February I have finished my appointments and still no scheduled date in sight I have a gyn outpatient surgery scheduled on 5/13 and would love if they can get moving on my gastric sleeve. I'm in Dallas and the doctor that I'm going thru his staff is terrible and have lost some of my results. So this is causing a delay. They have not even sent it to be approved by BCBS yet! At this point it will be three months and I'm pretty much thru with wanting to do this. About to tell doc Green and his staff so long, nevermind I'll stay fat. -—-

I had to be approved before they would schedule. From approval my surgery date was 8 weeks out it would have been 6 weeks if the doctor had not had a vacation scheduled.

This is one of the reasons they make us jump through all the hoops before surgery, if you are not ready to commit to the preop appts and time commitment then how are you going to be after surgery. Thr surgeons and your insurance position is that either you are commited to do what it takes or you are not ready.

8 weeks wow. I have been through a lot with them not getting my results forgetting they sent me to which ever specialist.I'm pretty much frustrated and irritated now to find out the average time from scheduled to surgery is basically a month and a half! Oh no.

I hear ya, I felt the same way at times. I remeber calling the "young" man that runs the approval department for my surgeon asking him why he hasnt submited to insurance yet and he told me they were still waiting on the psych report ( that was done 6 weeks earlier) I said if u cant get it I will. I called the psych they had sent it 5 weeks earlier they said. They immediately faxed it to him and I immediately called him back....I said please submit it NOW! He did and I was approved.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
