antibiotics the week I am having surgery????

Is it ok to be on antibiotics and have surgery? I have strep and i have to take penicillin for 10 days and my surgery is in 10 days!!

I would normally just call my surgeon's office and ask, but I have been such a pain in the butt for them, I had to reshedule twice this month for my surgery due to my loan not being here on time. so i rather not bother them if I don't have too.

Does anyone know what the guidlines are for this.

I would say it would be fine because the day we arrived in Mexico to have our surgeries Dr. Sanchez started us that day on antibiotics and we were to take them that day and the next day before surgery and then 2 days afterwards. So I would say your fine because we were put on them before surgery too.

It should be fine, but I would call and tell them you are taking them. I seriously doubt it will keep you from having surgery, but they should know about it. Better to be safe than sorry IMO. Good luck with your surgery.

I would say your ok, just let them know when you go check in for surgery that you are alrady on them. My dr put me on antibiotics after my surgery to ward off any infections.

yea I would agree with the others...it should be ok. but they do need to know just in case the anesthetic/morphine they use could react in some way to the antibiotics...

I had sinusitis prior to the surgery and took antibiotics up until the day before as instructed by my surgeon...they also do iv antibiotics there so be prepared for the old YI
