What Being a Boomer Means

Recommended Posts

We grew up in an era ... women especially ... where we often looked to someone else to do what needed to be done. At that time, men ruled the world. They knew it ... and we let them. So what does this all mean to being a Boomer?Being a Boomer in the 21st century means that we've weathered the war ... of feminism ... of equality ... of being our own source of self esteem. And men have become our partners.I started the group so that Boomers could speak out about what's going on in their life, what our concerns are, how we're feeling whether pre-op or post-op.Since I'm not always around to amp up the interest and activity, I have to trust that the rest of you will run with the ball when I'm not around. I would definitely be here if I could. Lately, however, I'm been submerged in a project that has garnered all of my time. The intensity is going to last for another week. After that, the pressure will be off, and I'll have more time to interact in our group. In the meantime, I ask all of you ... can you pick up the ball and run with it? It's ony a week. I hope that you want to keep this group on top of your pile and will contribute and share with each other. That's why the Chat Room is open. Also, we're ready for our first male member to speak up. Don't worry, we'll stop talking long enough for you to do that. :)

I have no problem picking up the slack this week. I have been checking this Baby Boomer site and I am seeing that no one has made a posting. As a woman of the 21th century it is my honor to help. I am just starting my 6th week post op and starting to fill that I am getting the hang of things. I have started excerising but not the way I should. I have no Idea what my problem could be. I feel happy about my weight loss so far but I have such a road ahead of me. My knees still hurt when I walk (not like they used to) and I think that is keeping me from doing what I need to do. I keep telling myself when I get another 20 pounds off my knees that it will be so much easier to get around. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe I am just lazy and do not realize how lazy I am. I have also noticed that I am really cranky anymore, short tempered as I am being told by my husband. I have always been a very funny person and get invited to outings because I have always been the funny lady but lately not so much. With having lost almost 40 pounds not one single person in my life had said anything about my 40 pound weight loss. I know I am still very heavy but for gosh sakes a 40 pound loss is a lot of weight. Has anyone experienced this? Take care Boomers and keep in touch this week.

Have a good week Sassy.

Cheryl - 40 pounds?? No way! That is fantastic! :P:o:D;):)

There ... let me be the first to congratulate you on that, and say thanks for stepping up. I'm taking a tiny break from my project just to let you know I appreciate your posting. I hope others will do so as well!

Be sure to click on "Follow this Topic" on all the threads if you haven't already. That's the best way to be updated when there's a new post.

Thanks a million Sassy, I love the name Sassy I could say it all day. I hope all your projects for school are coming along. I still have a long way to go but this is a great start. You have a great week and I will be here when you get a chance to converse. Thanks again Cheryl

Cheryl - These are not school projects. I actually get paid! It's just what I call my freelance gigs.

I agree with you on the Sassy. After all, isn't that what we all want to be thought of? Oops ... back to work.

Cheryl,

Go to our Home Page. Look at column on the right. There's a purple bar with the name "Group Navigation." Click on "Group Discussion," which is the second name on the list. When you get to the Group Discussion page, you will see a list of topics and posts. The first one is the Boomer Chat Room.

Mea culpa. Yeah, the Navigation Police took it down. While well-intentioned, it was confusing. I couldn't get it to work, so I I'd posted an alternate route.

I am having the devil of a time posting. I erased the above and made an English statement before I selected "post". Just now when I tried to write what I am now writing, it wouldn't even make letters for me.........Arghhhh

What I thought I said was that the method I posted but you erased is the only way I can get from this secion to the chat section. But never mind...who knows how this post will even turn out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
