Hi everyone!! Just started my pre op diet this morning!! Getting very excited but nervous too. Realization is starting to settle in and I hope I am making the right choice. I do have one question. What do you tell your children (that are old enough to know you are going to the hospital) what you are going in for? In addition to every part of this life changing event? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I have the same kid issue (15, 13, & 11yo)

I have been preparing the kids for a while telling them I am seeing a doctor and a nutritionist to help me lose weight and get healthier. My kids are all big outdoors fans and we camp and hike. Obviously, I can't keep up. So I tell them I want to be able to do more stuff with them.

I have not told them I am getting surgery. Nor have I told any family or friends. I'm just telling them its another "procedure" like the sleep study, EGD, or stomach emptying studies I have had.

I am going in may 1st. Scared and happy at same time. More worried about kids at home for 36 hours without me. My sister is coming in day after surgery. I have 20 year old who is good at keeping things going but my 14 year old son autism and can be a hand full sometimes. Also 12 year old son has been scared a little of me going into hospital. Is ok if I work there just not stay there! I am a labor and delivery nurse. I am looking forward to it all just not recovery. I have been mourning food a little but not as much I thought. Went shopping for food yesterday and was ok. Only wanted to cheat when kids had pizza for dinner. I don't care about the crust I just wanted the cheese. Had to have a spot of real food yesterday. Went to work for skill lab I though I would only be 2 hours was there 4 started to feel low blood sugar like I was going to pass out. Got an egg from the cafe. Was better after. Still did liquids in pm and this morning. Will not kill myself over this. Only 6 more days!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
