What is your diet like six months out?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering how those of you six months in are doing and how much weight you've lost already? What do you eat now? How does it make you feel, for instance do certain things make you sick? Can you have a "regular" diet, I mean eat whatever you want just very small portions of it? How do you keep from stretching out your pouch?

I would like to know the same. Looks like you are a few days after me. I'm having my surgery on the 16th! Would like to continue staying in touch since we both will be about at the "same" level of progress!

well Im not 6 months out.. Im 3.5 months out.. pretty much can eat anything.. reg diet.. but I stick to Protein protein protein.. thats the key.. and good protein too..not fast food kind. I still find a lot of foods bother me.. heavy foods especially breads.. still dont tolerate them even the thin stuff.. no oranges yet.. cant have that til im 6mo out.. I dont like sweet things.. they make my stomach hurt... cant believe I just said that LOL. I watch what I eat.. I get in my drinks.. and my Vitamins. to me now.. eating is more of a chore than something I enjoy doing.. but hey thats ok with me.. oh and Im post op dec 20th and as of today.. Im down 77lbs.. and Im so very happy about that... cant wait to get to onederland. good luck on your new journey.. best of luck too.. :)

I'm curious about this too. Someone told me that you aren't supposed to eat bread until at least six months after surgery because the dough can make a ball in your stomach and get stuck.

I'm 7 months out and eat a completely normal diet. I have been at or below goal for about 2 months and lost 80lb plus. For Breakfast today I had a cup of tea, morning tea was a small spinach and feta wrap, approx 2inches, lunch was a cup of tea, 1/3 cup of greek yoghurt and a small Easter egg (too darn tempting) and dinner will likely be a cup of Soup and maybe some wholemeal toast.

Yesterday, however, I ate 3 apricots, 1/3 cup of yoghurt, 2 cups of tea, 1 cup of Soup for lunch, 3 small spinach and cheese pastries, soup for dinner with a slice of toast and a crumpet with apricot jam for sweets.

I was grazing all day yesterday and was just sitting at home doing nothing. Today I was out and about all day and just never felt hungry, so didn't eat. I find that I CAN eat a lot if I'm sitting at home, eating all day, that doesn't mean I should, or do. I wasn't hungry yesterday, just bored. It's something that I need to watch.

And all the soup isn't because I can't eat solids, its because its nearly winter here and its been raining non stop for the last week and I like soup on cold, wet days.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
