Hello All,

Everyone calls wls a "journey" I hear it everywhere I go, on You Tube, here, wherever there is a video etc., and frankly well I think it's kind of lame. My life before, during, and after wls is not and will not be an episode of Oprah; therefore I think I may refrain from using the word "journey". Too dramatic for me! Now, with that out of the way...... I began to think about wls about a year ago, a while before that my Dr. said he would write me a referral but I was rather offended and politely said no. Two years ago I was a happy 175, diabetic, and active. Then I crept closer to 40 and the closer I got to 40 the larger I got, I've gained so much weight that today I am 215.

When I was young I was always pretty much always a normal size for my height and age. I was 110 lbs at 22 when I got pregnant with the most beautiful blonde brown eyed little boy. I gained 70-80 lbs during my pregnancy. I ate a LOT. After my son was born I lost about 10 lbs. My son was just a few months to a year old maybe when I was in college and was really actively trying very hard to lose weight. I joined the gym, took a PE class and took a dance class as well (all at the same time) for five months or so, reduced and watched what I ate, and lost a total of maybe 7 lbs. I was way beyond sad and frustrated at that point and gave up for a while.

Life went on and my son's dad and I got married. I gained more weight and went up to 200 pounds. Got divorced. Discovered I had PCOS, and endometriosis (painful yikes! OUCH!). I was in the hospital in tears every time I had a period which in the end ended up being about two years apart. Switched Dr's and got a complete and total hysterectomy. BEST THING I EVER DID IN MY LIFE! Didn’t know there could be such a thing as no pain. After my surgery in 2006 I lost about 15 lbs, so I was weighing around 185. The weight just seemed to slip off and then I leveled out. Then around 37 I lost about 10 more lbs and weighing in at about 175, was feeling good could wear jeans that zipped! THEN.... you guessed it the weight started to creep back up. Now I am 215 the highest weight I have ever been at 5'2, diabetic with sugars out of control and miserable. So, I'm doing something about it.

My first consultation with my WL Surgeon Dr. Carlos M. Juarez was 2/28/2013 I’m in the process of getting everything together, the lab work, etc., to be ready to get a surgery date and that is where I am. Will keep you posted.
