Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Oh yea. Since I've been on the hormones, I want to eat eat eat. I am full and cannot eat another thing and I am hungry. This can go on for a couple days at a time. This is different from the famous "head hunger" we are always on about. It's almost like a drive. Then it's gone. I try to drink more or give serious thought to getting a chew toy.

I'm always that way when I'm PMS'g. It's tough! I know how bad it is to overeat so I try to force myself to listen to my softstop. You can really damage your stomach from over packing that upper pouch. I remind myself of that and it helps.

Lately, I've found sipping Water all day helps during that time. We, females with our hormone shifts have to deal with stuff men never have to! It's not fair!

Well ladies, it is the day after Halloween. Hopefully no one hit the left over candy too hard :scared2:

I was wondering if anyone would like to do a Christmas Challenge?? Christmas is 7 weeks from Friday (YIKES!!!!) I am happy to keep track (the original way...sorry the new experiment in record keeping did not work out well at all for the last challenge)

If you want to do one we can do our first weight this coming Friday.

So, is ANYBODY going to meet me Wed. night at Red Robin??:scared2:

Deb,

I can come but I will be a bit late. I can't get there til 8:30ish or so. I am doing a lecture series at the Science Museum. It is called Mini Med School. This is our last week and they are speaking about cancer (I am very interested in this subject due to the issues with my MIL) So, I don't want to miss this.

I am hoping others will be there, and sticking around for awhile. If not, you and I can catch a meal somewhere after my class if you'd like.

Years ago I had a toothbrush that I chewed on. I also used to chew on peach seeds (didn't crack them open, so didn't have to worry about being poisoned). Both seemed to help at the time. I didn't have any candy. I didn't even really want it.

Right now I am sore all over from my ribs to my hips. I can't wait for surgery as I have no idea what is cyst caused and what might be something else. My ribs are sore and sometimes it's like I can feel my band, which I know I can't. I was afraid I'd slipped for a bit, but since I have no symptoms of it, I am pretty sure my ribs are loose again. I see my D.O. on Friday for my pre-op check-up. I will have him pop them back in. Seriously, how can something so tiny mess everything up so thoroughly?

How's the knee coming? I also haven't seen any updates on the perfect new tummy. My mom and my sister are moving back to Denver next summer, so I will have a free place to stay. It would actually be cheaper to fly there and see him than go here. Plus the shopping is better.

Julie: I will meet you at Red Robin on Arapahoe. I will get there earlier, 8ish, in case someone else shows up. Haven't heard word one from anyone else, other than Dee, who is going to be out of town.

Did this site change something? I couldn't get to this page the regular way.:)

I'll meet you and Julie for dinner. Red Robin on Arapahoe is fine, but if somewhere else works better for you two, I can go anywhere. I can be there any time after about 7:30. I'll check this board for info, but you can call my cell if you want, too. 303-669-2350

Hey Deb,

It looks like it will be me, you and Teresa (Laptastic) . Where are you staying? That RR is fairly far for both of us.... is there somewhere closer to where you're staying you would like to go?? (If not, RR will be fine with us.) My cell is 734-395-0548

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Hope you have a great flight.... and NO falling this time. :scared2:

Julie, its a good thing we had that pizza the other night - I have some major restriction now and pizza is not in my future for now! I went from 4 ccs to 6 ccs. Really feeling it!

Thanks again for a fun dinner!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
