I received an email from Dr K office listing the dates and times for their support group meetings, but of course I must have deleted it. Is there one Oct 2?

Thanks for the help:embaressed_smile:

I think his support groups meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30p. I know for a fact there's one on Tuesday November 4th. By that "1st Tuesday" philosophy, it would make his October support group meeting on Tuesday October 7th. But I've not even been banded yet, so what do I know?

I was told it was on Oct. 7. I booked my fill for that day so I could fly in and attend it :cool2:

Denver - I guess I'll have to be ok with Sarah being in Washington...better there than here! Haha! You have much more talent than I could ever muster!

Newbies - congrats on getting information, getting in touch, getting a date! I can say the only thing I regret is that I waited so long to get it done! It took me SIX YEARS to make the decision! To note: when you post a New Reply (not a quick reply - the New Reply button is on the left after all the posts) then right under your message that you type you can opt for daily emails...this is what I do so I'm not logging on all day (and, besides, internet is SLOOOWWW up here in the north). It's an easy way to keep up with everyone and to see that people are keeping up with you.

Winter is coming, winter is coming! NSV for me...BIG one. YEARS ago my DH got me a cool leather jacket. It's one of those "fitted" ones with one button. Well, I never could wear it comfortably with it buttoned (boobs too big, too tight, etc.) But I decided to throw it on yesterday and, WHAM, it fits perfect! Actually, there's plenty of room to spare so maybe it's time for a new one?!?! :-)

Cassy and Lowbmier welcome! I cannot keep up with all these girls so I tend to 'chime' in when I can. :cool2:

Cassy, my surgery is a few days after yours (29th) so you'll have to let me know how it goes. I find myself extremely anxious these days. Did you look into Dr.Atkinson's office in Vegas?

Sadly, I cannot keep up either :w00t: I find myself on here when I should be working. I love this group!

Lol.... LOVE it! Looks YUMMY! All thr fruit on the bottom. Yummmm.

The best way to find out all the particulars is to go to their website. I went there and and printed out all kinds of information and recipes. Eating is always Protein with carb. 20% fat, 40% good carbs, 40% Protein.< /p>

Ok I will check it out. Thanks. My PT just kicked my butt this morning... not sure if I can handle a whole new eating plan on top of all the homework she is assigning! ha ha.
Thanks everyone for your welcoming comments and well wishes! I need to get used to checking this periodically throughout the day so I can get in on conversation. I'm going to have a hard time concentrating on work this week. I know I'm only going to be thinking about the surgery...I am so excited!!! Shamefully, I might have to take an anxiety pill to get me through the days because I want to scream everytime I think about it.

I've been seriously overweight since I was 5 years old so the idea of being thin is enough to make my heart pound out of my chest.

Yippee!

I am very excited for you. My last week before surgery I was a mess. Second guessing myself, freaking out over the cost, possible complications, etc. Seems so long ago!!! And what wasted energy!! I couldn't be happier with my band!!! You will do great!

Had my first workout with Cynthia this morning. I hate her. ha ha. I love her too. She kicked my butt.:svengo:I felt close to tossing my Cookies but I hung on. I am going to have to hit the gym HARD this week if I expect to keep up with her next Monday. She gave me homework!! Love it!

Think this is the second best thing I have done for myself besides getting banded.:cool2:

Marcy~ Congrats! That's such an awesome feeling. I cannot wait to get there. I grew up in North Pole so I know the dread you are feeling for winter. I don't mind winter so much but they last WAY too long up there.

Oh Rachel is a lovely girl!

When you're typing a message, you can click on the little icon up above your message that is a paperclip. Then click "browse" in the message box that pops up and find your pic on your computer and upload it. Then you have to click upload again to get it into your message. Hope I explained that right.

Thank you - great directions!

Quick question for all of Dr. K's patients... I have heard he does both Lapband and Realize band.... Does Dr. K decide for you or give you the choice? if you chose...which one did you choose? And what was the deciding factor for you?

Thanks

Yes, Dr. K let me pick which one I wanted, so i picked the allergan low profile one

Okay, ladies. This is weird and I wonder if anyone else has this problem. For the past week or so I have been retaining Water like crazy. It's not just my ankles, but in my hands, face, etc. I don't have a uterus or ovaries, so it's not due to TOM, and I never used to have problems with this. I've tried OTC Water pills, drinking a ton of water, etc. It's so bad it's making my joints ache.

I have a weird hypothesis . . . when you're losing fat from your fat cells, the final products of the breakdown are water and CO2. I'm wondering if this is actually because I'm losing fat. I don't know. That's probably wishful thinking, huh? :w00t:

Mini, wow, that really does make sense! let me know what your md says

Congrats Cassy, you will do great with the band. I can already tell the difference, like my "full" button was broken, and now it works again

Marcy, thanks for the comliment, really, it's only jello! Just added extra unflavored Gelatin to make it a little firmer for the mold. It sure was a coonversation starter! lol!

And major congrats on the leather coat. i have always wanted one like that, but never could find one to fit me - you enjoy being stylish this fall

Isn't that GREAT! Congrats! I bought a jacket off the rack at the end of last winter. It fit but was pretty snug. I had to get something my other coat was absolutely huge on me. Anyway, I tried it on this morning and it fits perfectly. Problem is - it's a spring jacket and I'll need something much heavier for winter!

We'd love to have you on the BFL challenge with us. I think it's going to be more an accountability of getting to the gym 6 days a week and keeping on track with eating well. It's 84 days. I plan to post every day, so we can all be responsible to one another. I know that really helps me with big challenges like this.

You are so brave! I don't think I could do it with a trainer! I'm a wuss!

MARCY!!!! Woohoo! Oh, that's a wonderful feeling.

Glad to hear you saw your PCP today! Thanks Mini! I was worried about you - my little Puff Mini!

I was afraid we'd have to start a rap group,

"Puff Mama and Heavy Double D":drum:

see ya,

dee~

It's been 10 long years! Here is my VSG weight loss surgiversary update..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
