Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Just for kicks, I tried to "chew chew chew" my dinner last night. I had a salad with lots of fun stuff on it like dried cranberries, cashews, cheese, eggs, carrot shreds, yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes - you get the picture.

Well, I chew chew chewed my way to lots of gagging and nausea trying to swallow each bite. Now I'm really starting to freak myself out!! What if I can't do this? Do you really have to chew your food to mush before you swallow it? I am scared to death I'll get this band and underchew everything and wind up in pain all the time!!!

Jaime Jaime Jaime!

Dear Jaime!

My rule is this. Take a much smaller bite than usual. (I'm a gulper!) Chew 30 times, not necessarily to mush! Swallow and count to 9 -- take next bite.

Dee! Hey, I was just wondering where you and Munchkin had run off to?! You two ladies must be working your bums off!

BABY BITES!! Is it true that I should invest in some children's plates and silverware? To help me (at first) eat smaller portions and take smaller bites??? Sorta like this...I gotta be honest, I'm really digging the Princess plate.

You're so funny!!!

Yes, I've been working a lot of extra shifts! Crazy! I am really short on funds lately and I need to find another job. I had a second interview yesterday morning for the research job.

I used baby spoons when I first started eating. It helped me take smaller bites. But I haven't since the initial stage. I do eat from the much smaller saucers and bowls.

The princesses plates are a must have! Can you imagine life as a Bander without them?

I like that rule, I will try that as well. I don't tend to take any times between bites. Thanks :)

Thanks for the chewing tips. I have been having some trouble remembering small bites and eating slow. It's so hard!

Did everyone else get their port more in the middle than on their side? I researched this surgery for years and always thought the port went closer to our sides.

Also, I had my surgery on the 24th and my port site is still swollen. Anyone else?

I asked this on the Sept. monthly Dr. K thread too. I am just trying to see if we are all ported the same. I just want to make sure Frank (my port) is in the right place. :D

Michelle~My swelling took a while, I still have a bump at my port. Tom says it's scar tissue. Your Frank is in the right place. I love that you named your port, did you name your band too?

I'm curious to know where everyone's port is as well. All the pictures I've seen show the port being placed below the left breast (which had me worried about my bra rubbing it constantly). Where can I expect my port? How wonderful that you named your port Frank!!! That's so cute!!

Dee, what a great avatar! Century Club, woohoo!!!! Sending super big congratulatory hugs your way!!!

I am sorry I have so many questions. I feel like such a pain in the butt! Will the scar tissue go down? When we lose all the weight will we be able to see the port?

Frank is named after Frankenstein. I feel like a the monster because I have this contraption in me. :D:lol::thumbup::lol::mellow::lol::cool2: I didn't name the band. For some reason I connected with Frank more! :tt2::lol::lol:

Did anyone else name theirs?

Sorry I haven't been on in a couple of days. We got the results from my dad's tests, and he has a sort of melanoma cancer, it is under the skin. I'm not sure what it's called, but he is going to be having radiation on his brain and injections for this other cancer. I don't know all the details, I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my dad has cancer.

Also, I know that I need another fill, but with everything my parents are going through I don't feel like I should ask them to set it up. They payed for the surgery for me, and insisted that I tell them every time I need a fill. When I get another fill I am going back to Dr.K, so we'll have to see.

Dee, your new avatar is awesome!

Well, I'm off for a hike. It's so beautiful in Zion right now. Clear, clear blue skies and red, red rocks.

Sounds like my port is in the same spot as yours. I don't know if my is still swollen or if it is just sore but, Dr. K says it will get better. I guess maybe it is swollen because I feel pregnant, that part of my stomach has never been this big. (Guess I just answerd my own question, huh. lol). My bra does rub on the port scar at times and when bending over I do get some pain (not terrible but I can feel it) from my port.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
