Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Of course I was referring to other members of the group. I am also a very serious professional....

(I almost couldn't keep a straight face when I was typing that!!)

You will like this one...I was driving today and I saw a lady driving a convertible with the top down...with a big ol Brutus dog in the passenger seat. It was so cute!!

ahhh, that's so cute. I love doggies in cars.

I posted this on the main forum. What do you guys think?!?!? Anyone know?!?! I am freaking out, which I am sure is not helping matters at all!!!

Can you feel if your band has slipped? I am having a sharp pain next to my port and a little above...directly below my sternum. I am also having heartburn. My lower half of my abdomen feels crampy. I can feel something that reminds me of my port directly below the sternum area, it is firm like the port.

I am able to get food down and keep it down. I am not refluxing or anything. I have not PB'd or slimed in awhile.

I am concerned that it could have slipped. I have drank hot liquids and am not feeling better...

If I still feel this way tomorrow, I will call my doc, unless you think it is necessary tonight?!?

I thought that slippage was always accompanied by vomiting? But the fact that you have pain and something that feels like a port, but is not your port would make me call Dr. K! Let us know what he says. Thinking of you, friend!

Brandy-I think you would probably be refluxing or PB'g if you had a slip, but if you still feel bad in the am, call Dr.K.

My new addiction: the TV show "Rescue Me". I never wanted to watch it because I thought it would be unrealistic, but I rented the first season last week and it is great! The most realistic portrayal of firefighters I have seen. Bahot, have you watched it?

Yeah, we have watched it some of it is real some of it is total BS. But hubby likes it.

On a completely different note . . . DH and I have been having some wacky thoughts lately about retiring in 5 or 6 years, selling everything we own, and living in a motorhome. We could spend the summers on the Oregon coast (our favorite place on earth), spend more time with our grandbaby in northern california, get out of the cold in the winter, etc.

Are we nuts? Any thoughts on this plan?

I think that sounds like a HOOT! Go for it!!! =) Hubby and I have joked about doing the RV thing many a time. We love traveling and wandering so much.

tucker update (ignore if you are tired of dog talk:wink2:) He is doing great. No coughing, freight train breathing, or vomiting. He is eating more in quantity and in frequency. He is getting stronger in his back legs (all the better to hop up into my favorite chair). We are so optimistic about his future; it will be our responsibility to make sure he eats and drinks in a correct posture...a flat plane position.

Good news for me! I calculated that I have lost 20 lbs. since surgery, which was only 17 days ago, making a total of almost 34 lbs so far:lol:

YEAH Tucker!!! Good to hear!!! Congrats on the 20 pounds!!! AWESOME!

I watched the first 2 seasons and then lost interest. I LOVED love LOVED the show... but it lost me after the second season.
Hi guys...I am struggling bad. Say a prayer for me. More later.
((hugs)) hang in there

I just booked a flight home for a few days end of Oct. I actually fly out on Halloween. Wouldn't it be AWESOME to make my goal and be 100lbs lighter when I fly out to see friends and family I haven't seen in over 2 years!!! I am so excited!!! Re-motivated for this challenge.

Wow, I don't know if I can keep up with you ladies on a daily basis.

Denver~Thx for the PM. Best of luck on your WL journey!

Brandy~I hope everything is ok. Since I am not yet banded, I do not have any advice. Sending my best though.

Hugs!

Green~ Dr.K does place the Realize for add't chg., like Denver stated. I know he prefers the Allegren but was wondering if any of his pts. had the Realize band. Thx for your response! :woot:

Mini~My parents have been retired fo 11 yrs. now and still living in the RV full-time. They spend winters in AZ and summers up north, usually MT and OR. I say, go for it!

Munchkin~I too, have plantar fascitis. I have not had the 'work-up' you have had but the only thing that helped me was a pair of Danskos. I know, not the most stylish but worth a try. When I wear flip-flops in the summer I tend to get flair-ups so a good pair of ugly shoes may help.

Brandy~How are you? Please let us know, I am thinking about you that everything will be okay.

Denver~Happy to hear you are on your way!

Deb~tucker is on the mend! YAY! When Buster had Pnemonia the first thing he would take was my strawberry Atkins shake, then some Deli chicken, then he was eating more and more. I hope Tucker continues to progress, he is one tough pup and you are one tough mommy! Take care! I would love to stop by when you come into town, if I make it I will be late, like around 6:30ish.

WELCOME to the newbies! Congrats on your new journey.

Have a productive Wednesday all you serious professionals! Chat at ya' laytah!

Depending on how far the walk is from the Rental Car Return to the Terminal at Denver Airport, I might actually ask for a wheelchair! But I know that the walking will really do me good. I might just force myself to walk, and just walk really slowly. We've got a 2hr layover in Atlanta on the way back home to NC, so hopefully that'll be enough time to slowly make my way from one gate to the next.

With a 2 hour layover you should be fine. I had surgery last Wednesday and flew home on Sunday. Our plane was a little late and we ended up only having 15 minutes to get to our connected flight and it was very far away (Memphis). I managed to get there with one minute to spare but I thought I would die before getting there! Walking was fine but not sprinting, lol.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
