Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hola, Senoritas!!

Just got back from Puerto Vallarta...lots of sun and humidity!

Since there are a thousand pages of blog here to catch up on, thought I would write first and read later.

Had a great time down south, except without giving specifics I had the most humiliating experience due to my weak ankles and bad knee (both obesity related frailties). I wanted to die from embarrassment. felt like getting on a plane and coming home. this is the first trip in my life where my activities were so limited because of my weight. i missed being able to access this site and get the emotional support I needed at the time. the tears just burned in my eyes.:(

what the incident has done besides making my heart ache, is steel my resolution to make this surgery a total success. i don't care what i have to do, have to sacrifice, have to face....my life WILL change.:)

Thanks to the kind words and attitude of those of you on this site, I know I can do it.:)

Deb, I'm glad you're back and safe! We missed you!

I think that just before my surgery, things seemed much worse with my obesity limitations. I remember thinking, one more day, just one more day of this struggle!

Keep the Faith! Your on your way to a better life!

Hugs,

dee~

My sister is a flight attendant with SWA and I can tell you this is true. When she told me a story about a fat person on the plane who was taking up some of the next person's seat... and went on to discribe somewhat of a similar story I let her finish and then said, "Okay, on behalf of all of the obese people in America, fuck you."

You are SO my hero.

And you know what? Deb, that was the LAST trip in your life where your activities will be limited because of weight. Next trip you will be lighter, healthier, happier. You are making those first steps towards that now; your August re-birthday will be here before you know it!!

Well said, Shelbie. What a great way to think about it.

Down 1 pound!

Not much, but I'll take it!

Dee,

I just wanted to say thanks for starting this 10-week challenge. It has kept me on track (for the most part :tt2:) and kept me accountable. Knowing that I was expected to weigh myself and document it here has helped me through some tough situations where I would made a terrible choice in the past. You are the best, bandito friend!

PS

Aren't you proud of me for keeping my hands to myself as we have all these new folks join us on the bench?

Deb~Welcome Home! I remember many moments before deciding on the surgery that were hard to face. I also realize that I would have continued to gain and would have become more and more miserable. One point for me was that I broke a chair at my FIL's wake! In front of many people I didn't even know. That is behind me and I try to forget all those awful embarasing moments. You will succeed with the band, you will feel much better about yourself and your life will be how you imagined! Hang in there sweetie, we are all here for ya', for the good and the not so good.

Adorkable~Thanks for postong the chart, I printed that one too.

Saturday weigh in...up 1.0...can I blame Tom from the office because I don't get TOM anymore?? Okay, I take the blame, I made some bad food choices and in need of a fill. In despreration I did measure and I lost inches.

Amen Mini!! When I flew back from Florida last summer there was the MOST obnoxious chick sitting across from me, loudly blathering on her cell phone during boarding about all the drinking her and her friends did, and how drunk they got, and her sexual encounters....she was dressed like a prostitute too...bet they didn't charge her extra for making us all listen to her obnoxious phone calls!

Munchkin!

Are you sure that wasn't me on the cell phone?

OOPS!

Sexual Encounters? Drunk? Dressed like a 'working girl'?

NOT! Unless she was wearing Purple -Barney the Dino- scrubs!

Only working girl outfit, I own!

Yeah, I was going to be BIG (no pun intended) about it and say, "I will own those 4lbs" BUT darn it! I won't! My ankles own those 4lbs!

Actually, I was up 10lbs on Thursday, but lost 6 this morning, but am still up 4 since the last time I weighed for the Saturday weigh in. Not counting that truck stop scale! (it actually said I had lost 50lbs!) Damnit, I wish Dr. K had that Truck Stop scale in his office!!!

Dude . . . .I want one of those magic truck stop scales! I could install it in my living room. that would be fab.

Hell, yeah, your ankles own those 4 lbs. I just don't know how you're able to go to work and be on you feet with such bad edema. I am miserable when my feet and ankles swell. But I'm kinda' wimpy, so . . . .

LA- hope your US turned out okay. Sorry you were sleeping. Thanks for posting that link!

That was me thirty years ago.

Tied2BFit I think you are on to something. I say we, the obese people of America, demand a surcharge to all exceptional passengers as well. Let's rattle them off shall we?

Screaming children that make our ears bleed.

Dudes that belch and fart because I am pretty sure their stench haze exceeds the boundaries of their seat dimensions.

Leg spreaders. Those hulky muscle folk who have to sit with a yard stick spread as if the massive muscles of their legs cannot contain the normal thigh closure. *on most southern flights

Elbows. I think if someone is using your arm rest that constitutes crossing over into your space so they too need to buy another seat.

Do NFL players have to buy two seats? I'm just askin' is all. I mean many of them do crest 6 ft.

and those shoulders are pretty wide ya know.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
