Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Mary from Dr K's office called me last week to see how I was since I haven't been in to see then in months... I called her back today and she said Dr K was gone now and would be back in 10 days and he was booked solid until almost the end of July! Holy crap, he's getting super busy!

Again...I stay off the computer for a couple of days and it feels like eons since I've read the thread!

I've gone and gained 5 lbs. this month...GREAT! I've been highly unmotivated this past week...to do anything! I'm quite irritated with myself. I woke up this morning with a new resolve to get my butt in gear, but it's been slow...although slow is better than nonexistant!

Mark - what the heck is a Veg-O-Matic?

Mark - what the heck is a Veg-O-Matic?

Don't worry marcyinak, most people don't get my jokes. I'm used to it. :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:

A Veg-O-Matic is a hand-held, non-electric device that is used to "slice and dice" vegetables. Ron Popeil, King of Infomercials from about 50 years ago, used to sell them on television.

I figured, since Dr. K is getting so busy and all, he could use one of these Veg-O-Matics to save some time on the surgery.

Now that's humor.

hey marcy, you are having surgery on my birthday...woo hoooo I had surgery on Jan 29th and am down 61 pounds so far. Don't worry about gaining...just concentrate, imo, on making healthier choices. That is a must after surgery. Just like alcoholic, I can't be around the "good stuff", I have to choose to do the right thing.

Best wishes girl, best thing I have ever done in my whole life!!!

Thanks Robin! I expect my weight loss to be slower than most because I won't be able to get adjustments often...gotta fly to Anchorage ($$$$) and then see the doc ($$). I'm ok with it going slow, but I have to admit that quick results would be most gratifying!

Hi, Marcy! I managed to get in for a fill on the 10th...ha! Bet your surgery is in the morning...my fill, my third one, will be at 2:15. Lordy, I'm gonna let him fill that band until nothing goes down! Hee hee! Not really. I bet that I need .5 cc more. I hope that does it. It will be here before you know it!

Hi all -

I am happy to report an "official" two pound loss, but now the even better part of that is that I am not obsessing about it. I just kept up the exercise and writing down everything that goes into my mouth. That seems to be the key for me.

I'm going to NYC for a week starting tomorrow. Robin you are absolutely right, I am like and alcoholic. I can't eat like I used to, but could easily stuff the wrong stuff in. I also think there has to be a balance - for me, it can't be about being "perfect." I'll flunk!

Woofay - so sorry to hear about your loss. It is really hard to not revert back to the comfort things we have used all our lives. Could you make something for his memory? I'm thinking that busy hands help me, may they would help you. Heart mending takes time. Maybe plant a tree or a flower bed in his memory. Hugs to a special you!

Drews - thanks for filling us in on that group. It is fun to enjoy outdoor concerts in the summer, but is it the best place to talk? How's the knee?

Have a good week, I'll probably be able to email anyway. It is good to stay in touch.

Hugs,

Mal! Your back! Did you have a great time? Was it hot? Where all did you go?

Dynamo and Mal~ thanks for the well wishes. Grandpa wanted to see his great grandbabies yesterday, so I took the kids up to the hospital. I think he was very happy to see them. I ate a salad when I got home from that instead of pigging out on something I really wanted and made it past the "food triggers". Maybe the scale will say something good today...:scalesno:

Mal~ I get another fill on the 10th, I forgot what day you said your fill is. Is it the 11th? Do you think your ready? Is your scale still moving? How did you do in Vegas? Everything there is soooo yummy, from Starbucks drinks to cocktails to dessert buffets....mmmmmmmm. If I had been in front of one of those dessert cart thingies the other day (sunday) I probably would have blown my stomach apart!:hungry:

Well, can't wait for the 12th. Looking forward to it again. I'm going to try and get another 6 lbs off by then....hee hee! We'll see...the 4th of July....which is another reason to eat! HA!

VABandster~have a good conference in Vegas! I hope that you get some time to enjoy it. I can't imagine companies having conferences there. Would any of the employees really be thinking "wow, lets concentrate on the new prospectus" or "That key speaker really motivated me" when there are all those machines and shows out there? :scalesno::biggrin1::scales::biggrin1::lol::biggrin1::lol::biggrin1::P:biggrin1:

Morning Everyone!

Sorry I've been out of the loop for a bit.

I began excercising yesterday!!! Went to a Water aerobics class and felt fantastic. I was suppose to go back today for the same one hour workout but when I put my feet on the floor I thought my back was going to crack. One word: OUCH.

Doing good. My stomach ( where the majority of my fat is ) is starting to look funky. I can now see the texture difference going from normal to the stretch. :: Think glassy waters of a pristine lake to choppy ocean currents. I also can see stretch marks now.

Wow, makes me realize that being so big was like using the BLOW option over my stomach on Photoshop.

Looking forward to July. I'm coming out with my son. (awww me)

My appt. is July 12th at 11:30.

Everyone have an awesome day.

Patty

SSSOOOOO, much to see and do! Where will you be staying? Depends on what you are interested in. If you are a thrill seeker, there are a few coasters! If you like shows, then you have a ton to choose from. You must see the Bilagio and the fountian, very nice. If you like to play the tables, I reccomend downtown casinos (they seem to have cheaper tables), you must also go downtown to see the Freemont Street light show, pretty cool. The night life of course is outta this world! We spent $400.00 for a bottle of vodka and a table on the dance floor...fun, fun, but will not do that again! Be ready to take lots of pictures...beautiful scenery...oh yeah and take lots of ones$$$ tip, tip, tip!!!

You will have a blast, I am very happy to be home.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
