Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Goodmorning Anita,

Wow! You have lost 26 pounds!! That is so wonderful! You must feel great!

I wished I could of made it lastnight. I would of much rather be there. I thought that maybe I would be able to get away with going to see these two oral surgeons, but after researching a little bit, I guess the abcess has to be treated, so I am REALLY bummed. It's just so strange how it just kind of snuck up on me. I will call Dr. K's office after I talk to the oral surgeons, I will be devisated if I have to cancel my date with Dr.K. I am over the money part (money comes and goes), I can deal with that. I don't like taking any time off of work and of course I don't want this to interfear with my LB placement on May 18th!!

Was that the first meeting you went to last night? What did you think? I would love to join the Dr. K group for chit chat.

Sorry if I don't make much sense, the vicodin is making me drowsy.

Have a great day!

Hi all! Sorry I didn't make it last night. :cry I got home later then the 5:40 I was planning for so I would not have made it until after 7:00 so I figured it was probably not a good idea to come strolling in some 40 minutes late!

Dynmo- the coffee would have been great! I didnt read that until today. Yesterday after I made my post my boss came into my office and needed me to cover a meeting for someone else. Did you guys still go out afterwards? :)

How was the support group? Was there a lot of folks there? Did you learn anything new, tips/tricks?

Let me know all the details. I can't wait to see the picture!

Yes, last night was the first time I have gone. I don't know what I think of it. I was really nervous and my face was hot and red. (from my nerves) Aren't I silly? I have had some issues come up with myself, I guess from lack of medicating and coping with food, that I think maybe need a little more of the one-on-one counseling. Not sure if I have the money for that, so I guess the group stuff will have to do for now. I can't believe that three and a half weeks of less food could bring it out, but it has. I hope you can still do your band on your scheduled day, Mal. I guess that I jinxed you! I do know that infection can make surgery dangerous. Feel better!

Ok - I am very frustrated, I can't get the pictures onto this message. That said, it was wonderful meeting many of you last night. It takes lots of special energy to come together and share face to face. The meeting was a little different than I expected, oh well. I'm sure it helped me affirm what I am doing and I loved meeting you. Next time, let's go out for ice tea, the room was damn hot!

Mal - sorry about the mouth, I have great sympathy for pain. :sick

Drews - you are so fun to look at. I wonder if I will look as good as you next year. Wow! Impressive! Plus, what a beautiful spirit!

Woofay - I'm sorry we didn't get more time to talk, perhaps next time. I can imagine you emerging - you are so pretty.

Angie - I hope you can come to the next meeting or we can arrange a submeeting. Hee hee.

So, if someone can tell me how to transfer the jpeg file onto this website, I have two pics to share. Sorry to be so incompetent, the pictures are good, they are really big.

Hugs to you all,

l

Michelle

Yeah! Wow, there we are! Gotta tell me how you did that. I messed around for about 1/2 hour this morning and just couldn't figure it out. Couldn't seem to compress it. (it was too large) Thanks Drewslou! It's short a few people, huh? Going to have to fix that! :)

I'm not very tech-advanced but I just open it in paint and resize it until it looks right then resave it.

Viola! There we are!

Woofay - way to go! I love seeing the numbers go down.

When things slow down I need to remember this is a 2 year process.

You gals look fabulous! It is nice putting faces with the names! Thanks for the picture.

I spoke with my dentist and he said that he will see me tomorrow, he thinks he saw a crack in my tooth?? I am on some very strong antibiotics for seven days,so...hopefully I will be fine two days before surgery?? I can't believe this, just out of no where, I get a tooth infection and BAM another root canal, not to mention the cost of the root canal and crown?!?

Have a nice evening ladies!

Anita let me know how your counseling is going. I can't afford the one I wish to go to now but I do need to get back into counseling.

You are doing great on the weightloss. Congrats!

Mal~ I love your spirit girl! It would be great to meet you and so many of these other awesome people.

Michelle~ Two year process, yes. I'm so focused on today that I'm worried I'll slip like so many times before. I need to remember that two years.

Hi Ladies,

Well, Ijust returned from my dentist and have alot of work that has to be done. I have to go to an oral surgeon and have like three teeth worked on, I am looking at thousands of dollars...so now I am wondering if Dr. K will give me my money back? I am totally devistated, totally balling as I type this! This really sucks! I have been looking foward to having the LB done, I have come to the realization that this is what I need, I have faced the nerves and made a commitment to it. I made it all this way and now it might not happen?? It was hard for me to justify the 10 thousand for the surgery, there is no way I can justify the LB and my oral surgery?? And even if I can, I am supposed to have surgery May 18th, I have like eight days to get this infection out of me and then head back to surgery??? Is that even possible? Plus the time off work..I NEVER take time off and this would mean more time off...I don't know what to do??? Even if Dr. K doesn't give me my money back and he makes me reschedule, I wont be as prepared as I am now, I will be sooo bummed. i probably don't make sense, but I thought you ladies and gents would understand more than anyone else. It;s like deciding between a neccesary surgery and a not so neccesary one. I just can't believe this is happening! Please send some advice or ???

Mal... I would call Marilyn tomorrow and explain your situation to them. I'm sure they will understand! I don't see why they wouldn't refund your money.... they aren't actually out anything at this point and I would think they would be able to fill your slot pretty quickly.

Let us know how it goes!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
