Yes, I saw Dr. K at about 10:00 the next morning. It was good that I went to see him, since the steri strip on my port incision got loose, and when I showered that morning, Water seeped in. He cleaned and rebandaged it right there for me.

I did not fly home the next day, but two days after surgery. I was really tired the day after and a tad sore, but I could have flown home if I needed to. Just take some pain medicine to keep the edge off. =o)

Thanks Shesha! I need all the :help: I can get! Did you see Dr. K the day after your surgery? How long was it after your surgery before you flew home? That is the part I am most concerned about. I have heard several people say that traveling the day after is very uncomfortable....:phanvan

Shesha - I am very interested in how you are doing. My banding date is April 16th. I don't really know how much home help I need to line up. I am local so I don't have the flying to consider. Isn't Dr K wonderful? Are you able to climb stairs, get up and down from bed? Etc.

Hey Michelle,

I recovered fairly quickly. I wasn't that out of shape to begin with, so I was able to get in and out of bed with very little pain, just a bit of discomfort (like you did a ton of situps the day before) As for stairs, no problem. Everyone's different though. I would do as much as you can in regards to cleaning and shopping before you go for surgery, that way, you can just go home and relax for a few days. I'd say the most trouble I had was caring for my 14 month old, and even that was minimal. Daddy had to step in for a few days, changing diapers and lifting her into her crib. I felt normal after about 3 or 4 days. The only difference is that I could feel my steristrips rubbing on my clothes and stuff. =o)

Shesha -

Thanks. I hope I heal as quickly as you. You are doing so well. I will have as much organized as I possibly can. My 19 year old still wants his mommy, but wtf he can get stuff himself and help me out.

Best wishes,

DrewsLou thanks for that holla!

:(

I don't know whether to wait until June when I am off for summer or if I should catch a date in April or May to get this done ASAP.

Any thoughts?

I'm an instant gratification kinda girl myself so I would vote for having surgery ASAP. I know that Dr K is getting super busy lately, I'm not sure how far out he is booked currently.

Let me know what you decide!

Hi there!

I had my first fill with Dr. K today. Trying to determine if the fill was good or not with the Water was so hard to do! We finally decided that 1.6 cc's was good, I said my good bye's and left. Well, then I tried to eat some lunch. I took two small bites of a well chewed chicken breast and ugh! golf ball! I tried again later and couldn't keep water down. Soooo, I called up Dr. K's office and he took me in again this afternoon and through trial and error again, we removed 2 - 10ths of a cc, so now I am at 1.4. Well, I was able to eat and drink a small but fair amount of food for dinner. Now I am afraid I had him take too much out!! UGH!!! How fickle!

I am sure things will change tomorrow, but I know I had too much in before. I just wish I would have had him stop removing saline at 1.5 instead of 1.4 cc's.

Any words of wisdom would be helpful!

Thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
