Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

I was down 3.8 this week. Of course, this is 2 weeks worth, since my leg was wrapped like a mummy last week. But, I'll take it!!!

I don't think I'm going to make my challenge goal, but every pound lost is to the good.

Congratulations! Hope you are feeling better.

My good news -- I lost one more hard fought pound this week, bringing me to my first 10% gone! Very happy since I have almost no restriction.

That makes 6.4 lost for the challenge, 8.6 to go - not gonna happen by Halloween, but soon!

How is the leg doing? Although surgery is no fun, it does require your body to use lots of extra calories to heal.

Thanks for asking

I'm a real wimp. I'm in so much pain right now, heaven help me when it's time for plastic surgery

I am a little pissed off at the hospital nurse. She told me "leave the wrapping on until you see the doctor in a week, he wants to take it off" it made me so miserable... couldn't find a semi comfortable position to sleep, it kept trying to fall down, so I was always tugging on it. not to mention it made me walk in a strange way and irritated the other leg muscles.

Anyway..... I went last friday to the surgeon, and his nurse told me I could have taken it off after 3 days!!!!

I know it will get better...it'll just take some time.

I have been driving our F150 (the other choice is the MIL's Corolla) I decided to try driving the Corolla to a Moms Night Out on Saturday. When I got home and pulled into the garage I couldn't get out!!!! I just couldn't get the leg bent and lift it up to get it out of the car. I had to cll my husband on my cell to come out and lift my leg out of the car!!!!!! :w00t: Guess I'm back to the truck.

Oh that sounds beyond annoying! You must have been going nuts with that thing on your leg. Hope it is starting to get better!

Oh, I hate when the nurses tell you the wrong thing. I have learned to call and ask, even if I feel stupid. Due to the uterus from hell, I am very pain tolerant. I do however love liquid vicodin. I know I can't drive on it, but it's the best thing I've had. The pills just make me sick. The pain will fade, just keep that cell phone handy. I've got three weeks before my next surgery. I also got a letter today from my insurance company denying an appeal by one of my doctors (who's office people are idiots), so they will be asking for payment back, even for a consult on GERD surgery. I am going to appeal as this is beyond stupid. I've all ready had to pay way too much. This is so NOT my year.

The plastic surgery will make you so happy, you won't care about wimping some pain. I am having my face done next year to repair a skin cancer removal. I never saw myself going to a plastic surgeon. Of course, now there is some other stuff sagging that if I ever get the money, I will have lifted. Well, put back where they belong.

Hello everyone,

Just an update on my challenge progress so far - I lost about 2 lbs last week to bring my total lost for the Halloween challenge to 8.2 lost. I am happy with that considering I have very little restriction right now.

I officially have 6.8 pounds to go to meet my goal - obviously not gonna happen by the end of the week.....but soon!

Hope you are all enjoying the fall weather!

Tagging on to Gen's post.

I lost 4 (!!!!) in the past week making my challenge total lost so far at 6. I still have 5 to go. Don't think I'll make it.

I am flying up to Denver on Wednesday afternoon (late) for a Thursday morning fill. My restriction is marginal; it's there when I eat but a meal sure doesn't last long. It's a whirlwind trip this time; home Thursday afternoon because I have a class at 6 p.m. that night.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Deb,

I know that is what the plan was. Are you coming in on Tuesday for a fill on Wednesday or coming in on Wednesday??

Hoping to be able to see you when you are here, I have a class on Wednesday, but can make it to RR by 8:30 or so. I know last time we closed the joint

8.2 is great, especially with very little restriction. When are you coming in again??

Just curious....

Do any of you ladies that have good restriction somethimes have "hungry days" I have been hungry all day today. I eat and then I am hungry again soon. Wondering if it's PMS? (I really don't think that it is a band problem)

This is kind of disconcerting for me, since I am rarely, if ever, hungry.... and especailly not like this.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
