Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

  1. 1. Knowing what you know now about weight loss surgery, would you do it again if you had the chance to make your decision again?

    • Yes, without a doubt! The surgery has been everything I’d hoped for.

    • Yes, probably. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m losing weight and feel that this was my best option.

    • Yes, but I would have chosen a different type of weight loss surgery.

    • No. I’ve had complications and my health has suffered and/or I haven’t been hitting my weight loss goals.

    • I haven’t had the surgery yet, but I’m looking at the results of this poll carefully to help me make my decision!

Fiddleman' date=' mostly the pub, dining out and parties. It involves bottles of good wine and thick heads the next day. It's not sustainable on a long term basis when one is in ones mid 50s [/quote']

Sounds easy to do. I have noticed I never ever get any hangover after having a drink or two. 1 drink is all it takes for me to get sloshed. However it clears within 15 minutes. Thanks to my super efficient liver I suppose. I usually do not like drinking that often (1-2 a month). Since the fun is pretty short lived, it is not worth dehydrating myself. All that being said, I do like the idea of having fun with friends as a post op. The inner partier in me is almost free from decades of hiding.

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!! Very happy and so glad that i had VGS! Only 3 months out' date=' almost -50# & full of energy, full of LIFE! I love the way my body is taking shape, my legs, glut, arms, hips, waist!! I love that I can work out and feel fantastic after! I love that every single day I don't have to regret how much I ate, or what I ate, or promise myself that on Monday I was going to start a diet and then come Monday noon and the "diet" went out the door. That i don't get out of breath, Or that when I'm getting dressed I'm not disgusted and constantly thinking about my huge self. I love looking at the mirror and SMILING for once!!! So what that I'm not eating as much as my friends at get togethers! Big f&@&? deal! I eat as instructed, I'm satisfied, my sleeve is happy, and I can still have great time with friends. I've learned to eat really really slow when I'm out at dinners with the girls that we finish at the same time. You learn to adjust. You're entire lifestyle HAS TO CHANGE![/quote']

Amen 2 that I am so happy I did it 2 & I'm just 2 weeks out

I had my surgery January 16th with Dr Oritz and I am sooooo pleased! I am down 33 lbs and the surgery has been the answer to my problems! It has controlled my binge eating! My only complaint is that eating out is no fun! Socializing is difficult! Alcoholic beverages are not tolerated at all and since we can't eat and drink at the same time anymore it's awkward at times!! But overall I am very happy! I am in clothes that haven't fit me in years and feeling really good!!

Ok folks, I would not have this surgery again. Like any other addiction food is just the conveyer. Weight gain is the result. If a person puts their mind to the fact that they should quit eating so much and exercise more, they could get the positive results they desire. I had the surgery in January of this year. Yes I am losing weight but the price of surgery, sickness from eating anything even in small amounts is not worth it. Do it on your own and save your money and health.

But you didn't do it on your own did you xring3? I spent years thinking that and failing.

You are in the early days and when the sickness passes you may feel that control and a normal weight are worth the price of surgery.

xring 3 was asked their Opinion, and yes they might be early in their journey and I do HOPE they feel better as they progress.

But the reality, as stated is that the world we live in is based on instant gratification. most realize that it takes effort to lose weight otherwise the WL industry wouldn't be worth billions of dollars. IF they spent half that on Prevention and Education maybe some wouldn't choose surgical intervention.

yet, we all had a choice and that was their's to make, no one else's.

I agree!! I tried forever to lose weight! I did the yo yo up and down for years!! This surgery has done everything for me that I needed it to! Even though I have had to make changes in my lifestyle as you do with all weight loss programs, it has been so worth it! I am wearing clothes I haven't wore or fit into in years, I feel great, more confident and am exercising at a gym without feeling like I'm the fat girl!! I just pray I don't stretch my pouch and continue to do well!!

I am just saying, in my instance, I should have relied on doing this on my own. I lost 30 lbs to start and was well on the way at the time of surgery. My wife had the surgery and she thinks it is great. She is 8 lbs from goal. I bought into the hype and went along. Also, I was already several hundred dollars into the program and listened to the storyline. I guess if you can't push yourself away from the food table, are lured by media food ads and do not have the motivation of self restraint then go get the surgery. I just feel, in my case, I should not have jumped into this as quickly as I did. My fault and I blame only myself. Will live with from now on as there is no turning back. Close to lunch time now. Try eating an egg and hope I don't puke it back up.

I understand you regret it and that's ok, I get it.

But I just have to say getting this surgery isnt for someone that doesn't have motivation or self restraint. Getting this surgery doesn't mean that I didn't have "motivation" or "self restraint"

I still need these things to make this surgery a success.

That's all :)

Yes, I absolutely would. I am only 4 weeks out, but I'm already feeling so much better, Back and feet pain enormously reduced, and energy level is much higher than it used to be.

Wow, is that ever the truth!! In some ways, the surgery does make it easier to succeed - I'm not quite as hungry, feel better eating less, etc. However, it is harder in some ways because you can't just change your mind anymore. We are forced to stick with it, we can't take a break, for the most part. We have invested a lot of blood, sweat and tears into having a major surgery and the subsequent recovery, and made a committment to ourselves, so it has a sense of "last chance" associated with it for many of us. Considering all that, there is pressure to not fail. For someone like me who has a lot to lose and does not lose it super fast, I have to be motivated because it's a long journey. And because I don't want to fail, I am practicing self restraint - the surgery did not give me that or motivation. It's a great tool, but success comes from within.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
