How do you get away with ordering off of the kids menu? Do you just explain to the waitress that you had surgery?

Yep, that's exactly what I did..and they had no problem with it..

It's been a bit since someone posted so here goes. I was sleeved on June 28. So I'm out about 12 days. My first day was very very bad. I'm allergic to a lot of medications some of those are the ones they give you for vomiting. I vomited most all of the first day but slowly it got better. I was in the hospital for 2 days. I started walking in the hospital and have not stopped. I try to walk 1/2 to 1 mile every day. No matter what. I have not found a Protein Drink that i tolerate. I have tried a lot. I do my best to get Protein in with other foods. For the most part i do well with fluids. It is most definitely a change. I'm very happy that i had the surgery. When it got close to my surgery date I got very nervous but I'm glad i went ahead. I can see my future. A much more healthy and active future. As of now i have lost about 26 lbs. I hope everyone is doing well. Here is to the new and healthier us.

amgood, thanks for checking in with a status report...sorry about those first few days post-op but sounds like you are overcoming and have a great attitude...I don't know what Protein Shakes you've tried, but I haven't found many I can tolerate...my favorite so far is the Unjury power in chocolate Splendor flavor...I like shakes as cold as possible so usually I mix a scoop with some low-fat milk and ice cubes and blend in my Ninja...sometimes I add a scoop of PB2 for Peanut Butter flavoring....best to you for continued success

how is everybody doing? just some random thoughts and such--I went to the first monthly WLS support group meeting at the hospital where I had my surgery...I am glad I went for the most part...when introducing ourselves most people chose to say what type of surgery they had, when it was and how much they had lost since surgery...there were a couple of "veterans" there that had surgery over three years ago and I think the most recent sleever was 9 days out...I liked that there was a diverse group in many ways, and I learned a lot by sharing and the opportunity to get feedback from those that have been there/done that, as well as from those who are at a comparable stage with me...about the only negative is that I did let myself temporarily get a little demoralized when most participants who were similar to me at one to two months out had lost more weight than me so far...I have been in a stall...but I just kept reminding myself that we are all different and that I should not compare myself to others

another random thing...I tried to eat a few almonds this evening as a snack--it was about 6 dry roasted almonds...my little tummy did not like that, and I was surprised  the only other issue I have had is when I tried watermelon at about 3 weeks out...the adverse gastric reaction was not quite as bad with the almonds at least...I guess it is a trial and error thing, because I had specifically asked my dietitian yesterday if I could try the nuts...oh well...anybody else tried nuts during the first couple of months post-surgery? what was your experience with them?

Finally a real accurate before and after..... I was sleeved May 17th!!! the before pic was May 15th... Maybe around 320lbs... and the after pic was taken June 13th, around 299 lbs... I say around because I didnt need no scale before to tell me my weight and i dont need one now... I refuse to be a slave to the scale... because if i had one i would be... Ill let my doctor do the weighing in!!!!!! I see him on tuesday... i hope to be around 295 by then... My highest weight was 344 around March... so i think im on track well!!

I'm hoping to be scheduled for the end of may. I've been on a 3 month medically supervised weight loss. I lost 5lbs this month but my dr wants 15 more before surgery.

Any ideas on how to loose so much so fast?

I did the Protein shake for 2 weeks and lost 12lbs before my surgery.

The other day I came across a before picture (day of surgery) that shocked me. I generally made sure that I wasn't photographed. I really look like I must of been in the midst a nervous breakdown! Here is me now. I couldn't be happier!

Anyone else still around? It’s been nearly 6 years! I’ve maintained well and had skin removal surgery last October. They removed 7 pounds of skin through a Tummy Tuck and breast reduction down to a B! I don’t regret anything about the surgery, though I would have preferred not to have to convert to bypass due to reflux and ulcers. Still no diabetes after all this time and I’ve really never had trouble maintaining my loss. I’m currently around 122 lbs and 4’11”, right in the middle of normal BMI.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
