How long post-op until you showed a loss?

I was sleeved first thing Monday morning. When I weighed on Tuesday I was up 13 pounds. Today when I weighed I was still up 6 pounds. How far out from surgery were you when you finally showed a net loss after surgery? I know it's just water weight from all the saline but its still frustrating.

I didn't weigh myself until 1 week post-op. My surgical team/center prepared me with a lot of information, so I was fully aware I would have Water retention right after surgery for a few days (if not a week). I was down 12 lbs after my first week (and that was with an additional 18 lb loss on the 2 week pre-op diet as well).

I still only weigh myself once a week. I think it keeps me focused on the program and not a number.

I just posted a thread similar to this. The first week your still swollen I am 17 days out and I swear u will see a difference in the 2nd week.

I was ten lbs heavier. All from ivs. 5 days after I was down 5. And the ten water weight. 2 weeks. I was down 14. Now. S t u c k

For the life of me, I don't understand how you can be stuck. They remove 75% of your stomach and you can barely eat. How can you NOT lose weight? Stalls with gastric sleeve make no sense to me.

I first weighted myself 5 days after surgery... was down 11 pounds,

Paul, congrats on your sleeve! I feel your pain. I gained 18 lbs from IV fluid and swelling in the hospital. That came off within about 6 or 7 days. Then in the following days, I lost several more pounds of real weight, which was great. It was crazy when the fluid started coming off--I would weigh myself in the morning and again in the afternoon and lost a few pounds in between. If only that would happen with "real" weight! LOL. I did feel so much better getting that fluid out of my body. Not a good feeling. Don't worry it will start happening for you soon. Then just be prepared for the ubiquitous 3-week (or 2-week or 4-week) stall. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the replies. I know I shouldn't be weighing myself every day...alright, several times a day, but I just can't resist. I know it will happen and I'm not getting discouraged, just anxious to see some positive movement.

It actually makes a lot of sense, biologically. Your body realizes that it's going to be getting fewer calories for an extended period of time after a few weeks of continuously not getting the nutrition it's used to, so it panics and goes into starvation mode where it wants to hang on to every calorie. Takes a bit to realize it has to give up the fat stores to fuel you, and that's when you come out of your stall.

Just take your time and it will happened. I just walk my first mile and a half today and I am so proud and happy for myself.

I came out +5 lbs, and then on day 4 post op I lost 6 lbs in one day...needless to say I was peeing all day lol...it's all the IV fluids. Since them I'm losing a pound a day...love seeing that scale move!

Great job!I walked a mile today for the first time post-surgery. I'm 4 days post-op so I can relate to how you felt. Keep up the great work!
