Weight gain with liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gained weight while being on a liquid diet?

I started my Optifast diet on the march 5th, as of today I gained 3 lbs. I have not cheated at all, I scheduled for surgery on the 19th. I currently weigh 247 and the dr wants me to loose 17 by the 18th.

Does anyone know what I can do?

Do you take any medications that could be hindering your weight loss... I am on Opti and Abilify it took me 5 days to lose 3 pounds which i felt was implied not to be normal by the doctor.

You should call you doctors office and speak to the nutritionist - maybe they can switch you to something other than Opti

I think another good assessment would be to find out how many calories you're consuming on the liquid diet. I know that on mine I was allowed 3-5 shakes a day (Bariatric Advantage), with each shake being between 150-250 calories, depending on what I added to it. That gave me a ballpark caloric intake of between 450 (at lowest) and 1250 (at highest) per day.

I take metphormine, humalog and levamire. I called and left a message. I will try to call them again on Monday.

The shakes the dr gave me are each 160 calories each. I drink 5 a day for a total of 800 calories a day. Aside from Water and a sugar free Jello (which is 5 calories) I have nothing else.

Yeah, I'd definitely get in touch with the doctor to see what's going on. You shouldn't be consuming enough to result in weight gain in such a short period, though the body does do strange things (you'll find THAT out post-sleeve when you gain weight on 600 calories XD) when it comes to weight loss.

So I spoke to the ST's office they were not very helpful. I then went to see my endocrinologist, she was super helpful. She asked me stop the insulin & bam!!!! Two days later I lost 6 lbs. I am currently down 8 lbs. that is still only two down from where I originally started at.

I also cut back on the shakes, I am taking 4 instead of 6.

Any other suggestions?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
