This is the first negative post I've seen about OCC and dr Ortiz. I'm shocked and worried as I am set to go there on April 15th. Can anyone tell me more??

Sherri3388 I was upset too when I saw that so I contacted several people I know that have been to Dr. Ortiz and the OCC. They all reassured me that they had a great experience, very professional and excellent care. They all are doing fabulous and they are 1 month to a little over 1 year out from surgery.

I find it suspicious that this is the posters only post and they joined the forum just before they wrote the post. And, if it were really true, there would be many posts confirming what they wrote. My friend that had a band to sleeve revision over a year ago said there was a similar post on some board before her surgery and that person was slammed for making such accusations. Hang in there. Don't let that person scare you.

Dear Sherri, Dr. Ortiz has done over 12, 000 operations so I am sure you will be ok. Every surgery is not perfert so some people may have problems say 1 out of 100. I am sure you

will be in good hands with Dr. Ortiz. Just look at all the credentials that he has.

I'm with Dr Ortiz on April 8th and have only heard good things . Now I'm a little confused that your saying you weren't happy . Is there more feedback on the OCC with dr Ortiz ??? Help I really need your feedback . Thanks

I apologize for not responding sooner as I have been on a business trip.

No, I am not happy with the OCC at all and am not going to be intimidated to say otherwise.

I will be the 4th person (there is a group of us who have been friends since 2008 who initially used him) who will have the band removed and sleeve revision with Dr Aceves.

The problem with the OCC Forum is any negativity or concerns that are posted, Lori and Crew jump on and delete it. So no, you will not be able to view the "bad things". Which is sad. It does not make for a very honest practice.

Dr Ortiz has been notified by quite a few of his patients about the thug mentality by his staff coordinators and he laughs it off. This is unfortunate.

I have been told by two people who DID do research into having the revision at OCC (who were on the forums DAILY) that they did find a woman who had the revision and then had to go back to the OCC for Dr O to fix an issue that had cropped up. When this person copied the link and sent it to us, we were unable to get onto the posted concern because Lori had deleted it.

I am not an OCC advocate, especially after many of us have been treated. Hence the reason why three of my girlfriends went to Dr Aceves and I am getting a revision this summer with Dr Aceves. There are a few other fantastic Sleeve Drs out there. As I said before. Much luck.

Yo

Be suspicious all you want Sheree. This is one opinion and one opinion only based on MY EXPERIENCE and my THREE FRIENDS EXPERIENCE.

If you dont like it, too bad.

The reason these forums are in place to begin with is to share EXPERIENCES.

Not to be the Cheerleader for only a select doctor, which it sounds like you are.

The other comment I want to make is I have dealt with the OCC & Coordinators since 2008. I have ALOT of experience with their shenanigans. When I had thought that "maybe" I would go back to OCC for a revision, I was treated so incredibly poorly by Lori via email that I basically told her to go screw herself. Yes. I saved the email and just got done rereading it. I might as well swallow bile it makes me so mad and disgusted.

As I stated, there are alot of wonderful Drs who perform this surgery. Dr Ortiz is a drop in the bucket and is definitely NOT my first choice (or any choice for that matter).

You need to get your facts straight.

Dr Ortiz has not done over 12k gastric sleeve surgeries. You are giving false information

Well I had my surgery with Dr. Alejandro Lopez....Dr. Ortiz assisted but I think it's a different Ortiz. My coordinators are through Alighterme. I'm happy with my results. Now it's up to me to use this tool in the right way. It's definitely not a quick fix but this is a proces....a continuous process. I think I worry mor about food now than before. But no complains. Btw, when I had my revision surgery in NJ I was treated like crap.at MI Doctor in MX I was treated well and it was very clean

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
