Disney & My Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been to Disney World since having their sleeve? I'm planning a May trip and I'll be 5 months post-op.

I have no idea what I would be able to eat there. I'm wondering if I should bring all my own food. I do not want to stray from my diet plan and 4 oz.-per-meal limitation.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey Geri. I am a huge Disney fan and go twice a year. I'm headed in September this year and it will be my first trip since being sleeved. Allears.net has menus from every dw restaurant on their website. Check it out and u can plan ur meals before u ever go!!! Have fun and tell Mickey to hold on. I'll be there soon!!!!

I was just at Disneyland I took a RTD Protein Shake and shared a meal with my 6 year old, we had a carne Asada (flank ateak) plate with rice and Beans I had some meat and a little beans and she had the rest, they also have chilibeans or Soup but they do let you take snacks.... You could do hard boiled egg, Protein Bar ect.... You'll be just fine.... You can also check the online menu's in advance and plan tour meal that way

Have a blast

The parks have gotten much better over the last few years with healthier options on the menus as well as on the "street" stands. You'll now find carts loaded with fresh fruit and veges too.

The meal sharing is a great idea! And, definitely look at what's on the appetizer menus. An appetizer (if not fried, etc) would make a great full meal.

I went to Disneyland 9 months post op. Had no problem finding things to eat. Shared most everything with the wife and kids, of course, but got the Turkey Leg ... awesome! Also had the hummas/veggie plate ... fruit cups ... bit of hot dog ... chx ceasar salad ...

You can do it. No problem.

I'll be going to WDW about 3 months post-op so I have done a lot of research... You CAN order off the children's menu except if you go to any character or "all you can eat" places... Something to inquire about if you do plan a character Breakfast is not eating and paying a "entertainment only fee" ... You can always bring in a Protein shake or bar.

Plan to drink quality Water or gatorade to replace electrolytes as well.

You can also take a small cooler into Disney (at least you can at Disneyworld). It needs to be one in a softside case with a strap. We always take a large one that will hold 12-16 bottles of Water and pack sandwiches and Snacks in the zippered lid. You could easily pre -measure and package your meals and take them that way. I don't think the food at Disney is all that awesome to waste calories (or $$) on it (outside of the Dole pineapple whip...yum!).

We refill the Water bottles as we consume them at water fountains throughout the park.

Universal and Seaworld do not allow coolers.

- signed, a season pass holder :)

Went to Disney with my husband and two kiddos 9 and 10. We flew and stayed at one of the lodges in the park and one of the best things I did was go to grocery delivery site, it think it was garedengrocer.com and got a case of Water, Greek yogurt, beef Jerky, RTD shakes, nuts, cheese sticks, all of our normal Snacks and ordered Snacks for my family. They deliver it to your room your first day there! We then carried everything we needed in to the parks in string packs and only ate our lunch and dinner meals out! Not only did it save us lots of money, but helped me stay on track!

Went to Disney jan 7.. 3 days before my 2 months from being sleeved and did fine finding healthy food to eat... Of course I'm lucky and everything goes down fine and I have no problem with anything I eat making me sick or staying down and since it was around the holidays I wasn't following a crazy diet just eating healthy... I definitely shared food with my family and I don't really measure I just eat what I can which isn't much... I ate in Japan at Epcot center which was good and healthy, and somewhere in tomorrowland in magic kingdom and though I thought it would be all burgers and stuff they actually have roasted chicken with healthy sides so it was good ( I think that's new but then again I never actually looked for healthy food at Disney world before so they may possibly have had that since forever and I chose not to see it)... Then at Hollywood studios we had lunch at an Italian restaurant and I don't remember what I ate but it was healthy so I don't think you would need to take your own food unless your are following a very strict diet... Anyway I'm sure you can find the menus online and plan what to eat before u go...

If I went to a character dinner (buffet) with my family, is it possible for me to order, say, a cup of Soup? I never heard of the entertainment only fee. How much is that generally?

That is a great idea! Last time we went as our larger family most of us bought the meal plan which worked out well, but for sleevers it would be a waste of money. The snacks can really add up so nice to do that, and save money as well!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
