How long after surgery did you resume your birth control pills?

Recommended Posts

I asked my surgeon yesterday if I should take it and he said no, wait. Then when I got my discharge papers today (sugery was 2/20), it says I should resume. My b/c pills are tiny and my NUT has me starting full liquids today. What was everyone else told to do. I do not want to start my period of I don't have to.

Eek....how many days will you have missed? Need to use a backup method until you get your period if you miss 2 days.

I missed two days, the 20th, and the 21st. We use condoms already for back up. Plus I am in no mood right now. So I don't think waiting a few weeks will be a problem. Lol

Kelly & simplejack- thank you. I got the advice nurse's cell and will ask her. If she is unsure, I will stop taking it until I speak definitively to my Dr.

I take Yaz and was told to take them the morning of surgery, while in the hospital, and immediately after. In other words, never missed a pill.

I also got contradicting information. My surgeon told me 2 weeks post op I could resume my bc pills. My nurse told me not too. I am planning on taking them and listening to the surgeon. I had to stop taking them a month before I had surgery for the risk of blood clots so the time frame doesn't matter for me. I think he said it was okay since the pills are soo small. I am planning on asking the dr. at my 1 month post op appointment.

What about nuvaring? That's what I'm on. Do I have to take that out for surgery? I'm still a few months before surgery.

JessicaAnn I would ask your surgeon because the hormones in the nuvaring could cause blood clots (one of the side effects of most female birth control) and with that and just the general risk of clots post op they may want you to stop a few weeks prior to surgery, but every surgeon is different so ask your surgeon....

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
