Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

Have you looked at the C210K program? I decided to download that one and I'm gonna go for it. I'm only on week 7 day 1 of the 5k so I still have a lot of work to do.

I hadn't even thought about the 10k version! Great idea! I'll check it out for sure.

I was at an all day meeting today and after driving 2hrs to get home the first thing I wanted to do was go for a short run! It was good to get outside for a change too. This was my first run outside in the evening and it was really nice.

It took awhile but I read through this whole thread tonight. I remembered it from when I saw it a month or so ago and thought it would be a good read. I wasn't disappointed. I did week 1 day 1 earlier today. It's amazing how much easier it is jogging now than before the sleeve. I've "only" lost 41 pounds so far, and am still a hefty 319, but I felt great. I am 5 weeks out on Monday and haven't had any issues getting in Protein or Water, and am feeling great so I figured I was close enough to start doing more than just walking.

I started at 3.0mph for the 5 min warmup and then 4.0 for the jog. After a couple cycles of that, I increased to 3.2 walk and 4.2 jog. My last jog I did at 5.0 and then did my cool down at 3.4. I felt really accomplished, and am going to attempt day 2 at 3.4 and 5.0 for the walk and jog, respectively.

I just wanted to thank everyone for contributing to this thread and giving me the encouragement to try to work up to a 5k.

Need to get some running shoes....Suggestions as I wear orthopedics and have titanium joints in my big toes' date=' and arthritis in my feet. Had knee replacement 2 years ago. Training for a 5 K in May.[/quote']

Today I went to a place called roadrunner sports. It's a specialty running store. They take all kinds of measurements of your foot and analyze your stride while you run on a treadmill then they help you find the best shoe for your feet. They will even mold inserts to your foot. I would definitely recommend finding a store near you that will do the same. There are so many running shoes out there and really helps to have someone knowledgable help you. I always thought my feet were flat and I learned I actually have high arches. I'm excited to try out the shoes I got.

I down loaded the 'endomondo' app to use post C25K and I'm really happy with it.

I just read about this app in my women's health magazine so after you recommended it too I downloaded it. I'm gonna try it out next weekend when I run outdoors. During the week I stick to the treadmill at the gym since I'm a stay at home mom and my kid can play in the kids club while I workout. :)

That's something I've worked on as well. Having lots of variations on how / when I train. So that when life (kids / work / everything else) gets in the way of training I have options at the ready.

I did week 5 day 3 yesterday jogging at 5mph. I got a quick break when my son wanted something to drink but it wasn't bad overall.

Great! How do you feel running at 5 mph? Do you feel like this is a good pace for you to sustain 5 k or do you feel you could do a little faster? Question is really about how your legs and respiratory are doing at that pace. Do you feel like you are in control of your run?

Dang it! For 2 months now every time this thread gets bumped I see it and feel so flipping guilty for not doing what y'all are doing. Sooooo... Well, ok... LOL, not so guilty that I'm going to get my gnome a$$ up and running, though.

:P

Tried to do 3min running and 1 min walking intervals. Made it 23 minutes only instead of the 28 minutes. Did do a mile in 16 1/2 min though which is my best time. My nut wants us to run 2 miles tomorrow. This should be interesting to say the least!!!

Good luck! U will complete the two miles. :) I'd like to recommend that u get rid of the words "only" and "just". You did 23 minutes!! There is no only about that. Rock it out tomorrow!

Anybody ever check out the Jeff Galloway run/walk/run method? Last weekend at my half marathon I saw a bunch of people doing it. They had their timer set to go off to tell them

when to walk and when to run. His website has very detailed directions on how long to walk and how long to run based on your fitness and goals. But I noticed the people doing it did not get tired and they made up the time lost walking by running faster at the end because they were not fatigued. Several elderly people run/walked right by me with no problem. I may have to try it.

Just checking in. After being in the hospital I was so lucky to get the cold virus going around. I'm on antibiotics now and then scheduled for my gallbladder surgery April 30th. I'm thinking I will pretty much back track to week 1 or 2 and start over again. I think I'll also being walking my 5k alternate 1 mile walk next Saturday. But I'm showing up and giving it my all! Might should bring the breathing treatment stuff just in case. LOL

Just finished W4 D1. I've been off a while because on W3 D3 I ran outside instead of on the treadmill, and I either bruised the inside of my heel or am coming down with plantar fasciitis. It still hurts but I can't let that stop things.

If anyone has any tips on how to best ease the pain on this lmk. I'm doing stretches, ice, but no pain drugs.

I've added a different insole in my shoes. I'm running in Brook;s Beasts for motion control and they are pretty heavy for running but okay for treadmills, but I also run on the pavement with Sacouny Grid Stabils again for over pronating.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
