FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Not to be argumentative but it is one of those things. Your hair is essentially dead Protein so what you ate three months ago shows up in your hair today. So with the shock of surgery and the lack of protein you don't get in the first few weeks after surgery...three months later you experience Hair loss. These boards and the research all show this as a possible side effect. Regardless of what type of protein I eat or etc.' date=' it happened and I take it in stride because I knew it was coming.

I can certainly assure you it is not a Vitamin deficiency. I am a walking pharmacy with the supplements I take.[/quote']

I'll just leave it at that then. You seem confident in your ability to handle what's going on. I was just offering up some sound medical advice, because you originally inflected worry. Good Luck.

I was also feeling like that about a month ago. So I decided to up my calories to around 1000-1150 and it really helped. It might make me lose at a slow pace but I feel 100% better and feel like I have enough energy to workout. I've alway drank Protein Shakes for a snack usally just 1 a day, I wouldn't worry that you are still having to drink them. As for the Water, I wish I could help and give you some good ideas but I to have a rought time getting at least 64oz. in, I think I've only done it on maybe 5 days in the last 3 months. Just keep trying.

I also have trouble with getting my liquids in. I am dehydrated again. Trying to really push myself today to get in enough. My bloodwork came back that I have high BUN/creatine ratio and low Anion gap. Waiting to hear from the doctor about this. My pulse is low so they took me off all meds except reflux medicine and Vitamins. I have been off over a week and my pulse is still mid 40's to low 50's. I go today for and echo and to get a holter monitor. Not sure what's going on with me. I am also stalled. I was on a Water pill which I am now off so I gained after that...FRUSTRATING!

Down 101 from the initial consult with the surgeon and 91 from preop. I'm still kind of in denial when I put on my clothes. It seems like they shouldn't fit, but they do. :-)

Hi All...

It's apparent that I haven't been here since the start of May. My avi still says its my birthday month!

Sigh...I have a meeting tomorrow with the NUT! scale is going up. As of yesterday, it went down but I need it to continue to go that way!

Having a hard time planning a meal that gives me my daily Protein totals without snacking! UGH!

Hope all of Fab Feb Sleevers are making it happen for them!

My surgeon says this exact same thing. And he said while protein is critical the first couple of weeks and can lead to hair loss 2 months later if you don't get enough, some people like me who did get in all of their protein during that time (and on an ongoing basis) still have hair loss--most likely bc of the shock of the surgery, anesthesia, etc. For me it happened about 2.5 months after surgery. it has lasted a few week and is already starting to dissipate, thankfully. It's not like my hair looks thin, but I definitely notice a difference.

OMG I am so happy to read everyone's journey .... its one thing for my doctor to assure me I'm doing good, but its WAY better when you all do!! I'm Feb 26th and I'm down 48 pounds since surgery.

My calories really vary. Some days I can get in 1000 calories (by really pushing it), yet days like today I'm only at 250. Protein Shakes make me sick and Water makes me feel like I'm drowning. I work out 4 days a week.

LOVING feeling GREAT!! Can't weight to lose more!!

You probably have an electrolyte imbalance. Try drinking some Gatorade. I have a slow resting pulse too but mine's always been that way. Hope you're feeling better soon.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4

Sleeved 2/26 and doing great. But you can STILL see the light red square mark where the tape was that kept my post-incision dressing on (over the drain tube hole). I changed the dressing and tape a couple times daily, and only had it on for about 5 days total right after surgery. The tape itched like a mofo.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
