Questions About Hair Loss and Highlights...3 months post-op

Recommended Posts

My surgery date was 10-9 and like clockwork once I hit the 3 month mark I noticed my long strands everywhere. I've always had fine hair (thanks mom) but am worried that ill lose too much on top to recoup. I started low level laser treatments but don't know if that will help. I too have worn extensions before but am afraid that will do too much damage to my fragile hair.

I do heavy highlights and went ahead the week after surgery and did it again. It poofs up my hair, which is, with no bleached pieces, straight and flat to my head. I figured that even if half of my strands fall out, at least those that are left will be fluffier and make up for what falls out! This reasoning worked for me! ;) i guess we will see in a few months just how flawed my reasoning is! I am on Biotin, zinc and use fall fight triple treatment.. Shampoo, conditioner, and spray scalp and strand treatment.

Anestesia does as much damage as the danged weight loss and since I had it three times I have to say my beautiful hair is a wreck. I'm seriously thinking of going Michele Obama style just to cut off the horribly damaged stuff and start over. My hair has always been too thick for a cut like that so it might be kind of fun.

My losses didn't start until last month so four months or so....and they're bad now but I do have really good family hair genes LOL and yet still...it's bad, though as I said, likely worse from the anesthesia sadly.

Fortunately it grows back and likely my arse won't :P so I'll have to take the trade heh heh

Yes it does! It is definitely anesthesia related as well. I've had two more major surgeries and the Hair loss has started again... Aye yi yi

I get all over highlights and get the whole head lightened. I had it done at 4 weeks out. No more thinning than normal for me. Mine is long and I also take methotrexate for arthritis which thins the hair as well I hope at 3 mos I'm not bald but hope not. My hairdresser could not tell any difference and I have not seen any more shedding yet than I normally did before. Summers coming and I live in Mississippi. I may just shave my head and out on a ball cap if it all falls out. I will stay cooler that way. Lol. But if I have hair it will continue to be lightened and highlighted as long as I can afford it. Good luck and best wishes on many more happy hair days!

I had a reaction two years ago to gel polish - saw a dermatologist, who dx me with a sensitivity to the gel. My daughter was getting married two months later and I wanted to have nice nails. The Dr. recomended I take Biotin. He said it would help not only with my nails but my hair as well.

Fast forward to this December 3rd when I had my sleeve done. I had my regular 4 week appt for cut & color (including highlights) 2 weeks after surgery. I just had my 3rd hair appt today - again two color process. My hair stylist is my daughter, my hair is thick as it always has been, it just didn't grow as much as it usually does. In one way that was great because my 'roots' weren't as long before the appt that people would notice.

We (my daughter & I) will keep an eye on things and if we need to tweak the cut, or the process we will when necessary - but until then I'll keep to my 4 week schedule.

Walmart has a dissolvable Biotin supplement in purple bottle. It's great for slivers. Just the right milligram that my doctor prescribed.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
