How to balance the million appointments while working?

Recommended Posts

People i work closely with are starting to ask questions and My boss is going to start questioning all my appointments.

I want to tell them but when I finally get my surgery date I will tell them.

Any advice?

I just tell them it's doctors appointments. No need to tell them any details. I've also given work when I will have surgery (without mentioning the type of surgery). When anyone asks me, I just say some health issues.

good luck with your work!

What I said was I have to have stomach surgery for some issues that have been bothering me & I will be required to have a lot of pre-op testing before my surgery date. I always made all of my appointments in the AM, so I went right to work after that...

They have no right to ask. Because of Heppa laws. Only if u chose to tell them.

I just told them it had dr appointments. Legally they can't ask you and you don't have to tell them. And I believe when I took my leave my form said abdominal surgery.

Can you try to schedule multiple appts on the same day to minimize? I have to drive 4+ hours, so while I don't have the employer issue, I need to consolidate for logistical reasons.

I am a manager over Human Resources and you do not even have to tell your boss why you need to take off. You just need to put in your request. Good luck with that. I also so went after work, on my lunch, or before work and I didn't have to tell anyone where I was going or what I was doing, until I was ready to do so.

I told them I'm having surgery and try to schedule them as late as possible in the day. That way, I can flex my time and not have to say anything about where I'm going.

I have a very flexible job, where I make my own schedule, but I still have to turn in where I went at the end of the week. With all of my medical appointments, dietitian appointments, and pre-op counseling appointments, it seems like I have appointments at least once a week. So in order to reassure my boss that I actually DO have appointments I went and privately spoke to him. I just told him I was having surgery in April and that there's a lot of pre-op things I have to do before I have have it. He didn't ask me what I was having surgery for (because legally, he can't) he just supported me and told me to take the time I needed to take. I've had a few co-workers ask me why I'm having so many appointments and I just tell them I'm having a private surgery...that usually shuts them up and let's them know that you don't want to talk about it.

It can get overwhelming with all the appointments. I tried to schedule things together (on the same day) as much as possible. Thankfully my primary doctor has weekend and evening hours so that helped out a lot. I also was able to get my endoscopy on a Saturday morning to help with taking a bunch of time off pre-op. For every appointment I asked if they had early morning or evening hours and worked it around my schedule as much as possible. It never hurts to ask. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
