Alchol 4 weeks post

Recommended Posts

My doc said never before two months. Picture your arm....now picture you broke it and have a huge suture line down it where they sewed it up.....want to pour rubbing alcohol on it???? Probably not, even at four weeks it's not fully healed so the alcohol is going to hurt that new skin that's forming. That's what you're doing to your poor cut open tummy :( At four weeks you are not fully healed (it takes a minimum six and up to eight which is why my doc says two months). So skip it tonight.

On the "gets drunk easier" thing. I drink wine, not hard alcohol so the results might be different, but I don't get tipsy on one glass of wine. Actually I find if I get even a tiny buzz it goes away very quickly but that takes a couple of large glasses, where as previously two larger glasses of wine would make me a bit happy LOL I don't drink to get drunk so I kind of like that it does not bother me :) But at four weeks...save it for home later.

Also...first glass of wine I had tasted like vinegar and it gave me terrible heart burn. I had actually waited four months or so because of complications and I totally lost my palate. I find that the tannins in some red wines bother me now so I only drink reds that I know are lower in tannins. This sucks because we collect pinot noir. :(

I agree with Laura, it's a little soon, and definitely try it at home first. I'm not so much worried about you hurting your sleeve as the fact that you will be driving. That is definitely not the time to try it for the first time.

To the others who said this question sparked emotional responses, if you're referring to the thread I think you are, it wasn't the question itself, but the general attitude in which it was asked, and subsequent responses. THIS was a perfect way to bring up and ask a great question. She asked before she did it and she listened to the responses and is taking them into consideration. This thread is a legitimate seeking of information in the interest of taking care of herself, and will help any future readers. Thanks for posting, Karlafaye!

I started drinking too soon and it's a lot of extra calories. I think it's what has slowed my weightloss.

I can speak from experience on this one.. I somehow talked myself in to having a glass of wine 4-5 weeks after surgery....I didn't experience the vinegar taste as I like sweet wines like Cardinale or Moscato... but let me tell you... 1/2 a glass, and I felt like I had drank 2 bottles!!! Drinking wine certainly isn't like it was before, and that experience was enough to scare me. Not to mention, like the previous posts.. yes it definitely does burn! Not to mention the heartburn you will experience afterwards too. Now I am 7 months out and I do enjoy a glass of wine now and again, but it is definitely not the same experience at all.

Heyy was wondering if anyone can help me. I'm just over 4 weeks post op I havnt had any issues and feel 100% fine' date=' I'm going out with the girls tonight and was takein the car but now for some crazy reason I'm diein to have a glass of wine! My dr didn't give me an actual amount of time to not have alchol so was wondering what people would think, is it a really bad idea? Has anyone had a glass 4 weeks out and were they ok? Thank you...x[/quote']

Is it really worth it to you to add the extra empty calories that could lead to additional extra calories? It is up to you to answer each time you are faced with going off plan.

I had a glass of wine 4 weeks post op. I drank about half of it - no problem. It did burn a bit and it tasted a lot more sugary than preop. I used to just love wine but since my surgery it just isn't the same. I no longer enjoy it. In my 10th week out, I had a week full of business dinners and had key lime martinis at each dinner with absolutely no problems. Obviously alcohol contains empty calories so it's best not to drink a ton of it but the reality is many of us will still drink at least occasionally. Just take it slow and watch how you feel. I've seen some people say that they get tipsy much more quickly. I have not had that experience. I drink MUCH more slowly now though. Preop I would have had three cocktails during a 3 hour dinner. Now it's just one.

See there ya have the diff between my surgery and yours :). I had it so I wouldn't be on a diet for the rest of my life (off plan). While I log my foods and wine :) it is an important part of a lovely meal. Nothing is "off plan" as long as I get in my Protein and take in enough other fluids. I have as glass of wine or two regularly and stay easily below 800 calories daily. Not at four weeks out mind you...but certainly at four months I do and I'm losing weight just fine while I enjoy life.

I had a glass of wine well actually 2. I'm 3 weeks out and was perfectly fine. No burning and a nice buzz. Not like I'm drinking this everyday though I'll probably have another glass in 2 weeks just to make sure I'm not indulging too often.

Try a sip from a friends wine. See how it feels going down. If you're okay, go for your own glass. If not, wait.

I tried drinking at 4 weeks and it burned so bad. 6 weeks out I tried again... And I enjoyed a good couple of drinks.

You may still be too tender but try just a sip at first

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
